If this is your first outing with Ghost in the Shell, please please please do yourself a favor and and watch the original. The original, also available on steam, looks great at 1080p so you're really not missing anything by skipping this version.

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is more or less an odd re-make of the original...but someone thought it was a good idea to re-do certain scenes in "modern" CGI (2008), spruce up the sound, and change the color palette. I don't like the new colors, and I think the transitions between the original film and new CGI scenes are jarring...If you're already familiar with the original work, just watch the intro trailer before you buy to make sure that you like it.

This is just the first ghost in a shell movie with 90's CGI in place of some of the awesome hand drawn animation. It might have been a cool for it's time, but the CGI really does contrast from the other hand drawn animation. The CGI is also wedged in about 10% of the entire movie, the remainder is the same from "1.0". I'm glad I got in a bundle on sale, instead of individually at full price.

Sorry aber das Original ist um längen besser! Also wenn das ein "remastered" sein soll, ist es alles andere als gut gelungen!
Von den Zeichnungen her ist kaum ein Unterschied zu erkennen, lediglich die Sättigung der Farben ist ein wenig Kräftiger geworden. Dazu noch das grotten schlechte CGI, was echt eine beleidigung für so ein guten Film ist! Vom Sound her ist mir nur aufgefallen das es etwas klarer ist, aber einige der Soundeffekte z.B. die der Waffen, klingen im Original um einiges Wuchtiger und somit besser.

Fazit: Wenn Ihr euch den Film geben wollt, und das solltet Ihr, dann schaut auf jeden fall das Original. Kann das hier einfach nicht empfehlen!

Призрак в доспехах 2,0 это тот же Призрак в доспехах с 3D вставками в некоторых местах, а точнее, в местах где наиболее выгодно смотрится главная героиня, и где показывают город.

Сначала, конечно, новая графика кажется непривычной, но потом понимаешь, что из культового аниме про киберпанк, ребрендингом сделали вполне красивый фильм.

Общая длина вставок около 10%. Всем, кому понравился оригинальный фильм смотреть понравится.

Ghost in the Shell 2.0, confusing title because there is an actual Ghost in the Shell 2 (innocence), which is a sequel, while this 2.0 is actually a modified/remastered version of the original and has nothing to do with the sequel, so in my mind it should have been called 1.1 or something.

Personally im not a big fan of remastered versions, but for Gost in the Shell, i made an exception and bought this version.

Very hard to be objective about this one, especially since im such a big fan of the original.
Ghost in the Shell is a cult movie, from its refined aesthetics and unforgetable music, to the deep philosophical questions and almost prophetic visions of the future, everything is an exquisite work of art.
So it comes as no surprise that any changes to this perfection will be regarded as sacrilege by rabid fans as myself.

Ok so now to the changes:

Some scenes were replaced by cgi. Of course this was a bad idea, and the fact that this technique of combining classic animation with cgi never became popular, is a proof that cgi and hand drawn do not belong together.
Despite the fact that i detest this cgi decision, i must say that its obvious a lot of effort was put into making the cgi look almost like hand drawn, make it integrate well into the movie.
For the most part, this integration was successful, but sometimes, it reminded me of old videogames where the 2d gameplay was interrupted by cgi cutscenes. Almost unbearable for a cult movie, especially for old fans.

The colour palette was changed. The new colours are warmer, more saturated and more pleasing to the eye, not to mention a lot of the coldish greens were replaced by hot reds in several scenes.
The choice of colours of the original did a great job of conveying a depressing feeling of hopelessness and dystopia, also made very obvious the contrast with the colourful scenes.
The new version, while more pleasing to the eye, loses a lot of its message, because there is hardly any depressing feeling and less contrast to the more colourful scenes.

After all is said and done, if i want to be really honest, i have to say this version is like the mod of a game. Its not a matter of better or worse, its a matter of different, and just like i would do in the case of a game, i definitely recommend watching the original (vanilla) first, then check the remastered (modded) versions.

The anime seems ok enough, but DON'T buy it here if you've got medium-to-slow internet connection. Hell, DON'T buy it even if your connection is fast enough, but you're far from Steam (or wherever the video is stored) CDN or the CDN is slow to access, because you're only able to watch this anime as a stream video with progressive downloading. This means you can't download it to your computer as a whole and watch it comfortably. Instead, you'll experience constant lags and pauses as the video continues to download by small parts during the view. And the better the video quality is, the more often pauses will occur.
I've got up to 50Mb/s internet bandwidth, but still the anime lags at full screen 1080p (required 5Mb/s) or even at 720p.
In a nutshell, buy access to stream video only at the services which you have acceptable connection speed to.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT THE GHOST IN THE SHELL 2 - INNOCENCE!!! Don't make the same mistake as I did, read the description first!

This is a "re-master cut" of the first movie, in a way. Meaning, that for some reason they wanted to replace some scenes with CGI animation, which "surprise, surprise" look super outdated in the year 2017, where as the animations in the original version still look stunning. I really can't recommend this over the original "1.0". Get that one and only get this, if you're a die hard fan and want to have this also in your Steam library!

As my first time seeing this, this copy was excellent. The English audio synced just fine with the video. My only gripe would be that I couldn't figure out how to turn the Japanese audio on with English subtitles. I feel like the original Japanese audio is the way it's meant to be watched, and it would be nice to experience it that way.
