Towards the end of my runs, I usually go for the Spearhead myself. Sure, it's got next to no maneuverability, but (iirc, I might be wrong) it's got the highest top speed in the game.
Couple it with a full set of fins and you've got an even higher top speed (and a little bit more handling, but still not much). Along with it, I usually use the Orbital Cannon and Shuttle Reactors.
There might be validation for the use of El Fuego (sufficient stats and low cost for speedruns, compared to other options) and Sonic Bursts (timing for peak efficiency), but it won't really work unless you know exactly when to fire them off.
My main tip: do NOT use a launcher. This then counts the sonic burst's maximum speed for your end of round max speed. If you use a launcher, it bugs out as you're travelling over your expected maximum or slowing down. So either you need a good launcher (imo a waste of cash) or no launcher.
After testing, there are 2 major reasons to use el fuego:
1. It's ridiculously quick. Spearhead with omega balloon/whatever will keep you travelling for 2 minutes++
2. It works. It's a case of keep trying, we would not be recommending something if it didn't work. My own save using el fuego has it completed in 5 days (it might be 4).My 200k runs I complete on day 2, without el feugo.
Also bear in mind it also helps massively if you have more premium items. So spam 10 200k runs which with el feugo finishes in like 5 minutes a run. Start pumping fuel/obstacles/power etc and you will notice it.
To give you an idea how powerful it is, with not even max upgrades, el fuego with sonic bursts will hit the ceiling of the map within 10 seconds with a sonic burst TO SPARE. (this is like 10 million height iirc)
To get an idea of when to change from whatever you're doing to change to el fuego you will need a minimum of:
el fuego level 6
3x sonic bursts at level 8+
Ideally a shield, at level 3-5
The things which reduce impact will help if you havent unlocked the shield yet, as hitting stuff is the major downfall of that strategy.
DO NOT GET A LAUNCHER
i don't know i just went into sandbox mode tried it and it was a hit or miss due to hitting stuff on the way up. if i didn't hit anything than yeah it was super strong for a 200k speed run but if i hit stuff that caused the angle and trajectory to go off i was super screwed. not sure i want to take that gamble on a speed run until more upgrades on Spring Plating and Traffic Control and saving up sardines for the shield. meanwhile in sandbox mode i was able to push the pixel to 1.3m with 4 solar turbines so i think i'm gonna try to add that into the mix for speed runs.
Edit: actually i can do the setup on day 5 (had about $20k) but i ended up failing because the shield didn't protect me from changing trajectory and got screwed. very unreliable!!!!!
Due to the amount of stuff you can hit, el fuego does require some invenstment in clear skies from the shop.
El fuego shouldnt even be brought out in general for 200k runs, other methods are usually better to hit that distance. Usually anything after 200k el fuego comes into it's own.
The point is, hitting 4 million height is going to require omega rockets on any other setup, which are super expensive and pretty slow.
I've yet to obtain the omega rockets myself, but I've gone way higher than 4m at this point.

Haven't hit the 10m yet, but that's mainly because I'm lazy, as well as otherwise occupied. (Haven't played this for some months now.)
yeah i've made it to 1.3m in sandbox mode with 4 Solar Turbines and Pixel. i'm willing to bet with the same amount of money i won't even get near that altitude doing El Fuego.
I've also got my premiums up quite high. Still a long way to go to completely max out everything in the Bonus Shop though.
It's pretty obvious to everyone that getting everything at +30 is gonna go over 4 mill.
The question is, how fast are you doing it? the guide manages to do it within the speedster time limit when using a few items or having a good bonus shop.
I personally complete 4 million in 3 days using el fuego. How quickly are you guys doing it?

Got Omega Spring and Omega Penguin though. ^^
Actually.... here. Have a screenshot anyway :p

The Russian Roulette is a gamble, but if it hits a killshot, it's better than Big Bertha/Orbital Canon. (Tested in Sandbox, just the launcher, no weather/traffic/etc.... Roulette beats maxed Bertha/Canon before it itself is maxed, provided it hits a killshot.)
using El Fuego and Sonic Burst on day 4 i got an altitude of about 100k (52.38k ft on day 3). with the glider and catapult i got 162.2k on the same day 4 (85.72k on day 3).
conclusion: El Fuego and Sonic Burst are bad for 200k speed runs. for high altitudes that's probably a different story. but at what point does it out scale Glider and Catapult is the next question.
i believe it's roughly at the point you start hitting 300k-500k distance.
As you can tell from the fact i complete 500k at day 2, I have a pretty decent bonus shop going on, i can tell you right now, the day 2 is not using el fuego. I believe it's 4x experimental rockets with either glider or omega penguin. 1 mill might be possible at day 2 with a maxed bonus shop.
Basically if you can keep up with the speedster guide, you're doing fine:

Also note the guide also recommend avoiding el fuego till day 6.
Upgrade the bonus shop significantly. i also highly recommend spamming the quickest one possible to gather up a reasonable number of bonus points before starting, think you can get some free bonus points from codes.
As i said, by about day 4 or 5 you can hit the ceiling of the map.
Not played in ages so dont have exact numbers but the guide still works with enough investment into the bonus point shop, specifically ones which reduce drag and ones which increase sonic bursts power and fuel. you also obviously need the upgrades which allow you to reach +30 for sonic burst
The only purpose of el fuego is to pair up with sonic bursts, another place you could be going wrong
