Why is Learn to Fly 3 free?

Very curious why this game is free...

Technically because it was originally designed as free to play game with advertisements (because that was a thing for flash games) but since it was about 3-4 years in development and the flash market kinda died in that time lightbringer had to implement microtransactions to get at least some revenue from the game because otherwise it wouldve been 3-4 years wasted without any income from it. So the microtransactions got added last minute before release and werent originally planned in the design. And since it got released on web first as a flash game it wouldve been kinda weird to put a price on steam for it so he just went for the free to play (with microtransactions)... However as most people said themselves you dont really have to buy sardines and most people only do so to support the dev
