Something I sometimes miss (because it's not mentioned) is that the car must be fitted with street tyres for these missions, to make it road legal.
The games kinda half mechanic sim anyways, they could even do like a booking keep section for the shop. Any car you haven't flagged as personal can be auto flagged as inventory as with its parts. As you buy and sell the shop can track transactions and stuff. Would be cool I think. Pain in the ass to implement I'd guess though lol
As for making money in general, I will buy heavily used/high mileage cars, fix the parts (but NOT the body) and completely strip the car and selling its parts (they go in their own box with the license plate number labeling the box). I used to do this with wrecks also, but its possible to get one with more unrepairable parts then repairable parts and end up loosing money.
Another profitable route is to find out which used cars have race points on them. It's always the same ones, so once you find out you can reliably chose them. It makes a significant difference to the sale price. The biggest profit margin is with the ~66K green Buthanbang wreck. Repaired and upgraded to max, it sells for ~400K because it has 310 racing points on it. That price is assuming you have the turbo DLC. Max parts are expensive, but the profit margin is still huge.
Quickest profit is the blue mechanic's special Jingu. Costs ~20K, sells for ~40K after nothing more than a body repair costing very little. Even if you don't fix anything else. Which I always do because my garage only sells pristine cars.
Cheesiest profit is building a 400m drag racing car that can do a medal time (preferably gold or at least the silver time) and grinding dozens of races to put race points on the car. More race points, higher sell price. And you get paid for every race too. The selling price of my Walea drag car increased to ~1M just from me chasing a 5s time. Took me ages, but I made it. 5.89s, no cheesing it with the reverse and run up method. It's something like 1.3M now. For a Walea. Not that I'm going to sell it.
It's a moot point after a while because you will have more money than you have any use for. What's the difference between having a spare million and having a spare hundred million?
I think the general idea in this thread is more a matter of wanting to see the numbers rather than wanting to maximise profit. Many people (myself included) like to see the numbers, to see the details. For example, I'd like the usual details for a drag race, e.g. 60 foot time, etc. And a whole slew of personal best times. Fastest lap for each track for each manufacturer and each engine type and overall PB lap time for each track. And a dyno. And a 0-60mph time. With detailed records, like with the lap times. And a 0-100-0 time likewise.
And a house. And a bigger garage. And a bigger carpark. My main character has a vast fortune but they live in a motel. Well, mostly they live in the garage or in one of their cars. So I guess the house wouldn't be relevant anyway.
But no big deal. I'm still enjoying this game after who knows how many hours. I'm currently fiddling with the latest version of "Bumblebee", my yellow and black CV8 powered circuit racing Walea. The new 265x18 wheels and tyres have proved to be just the job for it. Still needs stiffer than stock swaybars, but not as stiff as it did with 20 inch wheels. And it's faster than it was with 15 inch wheels.
