I also really hope that they will port the second part of Hakuoki when the time comes.
I currently only have a PC, a 3DS and my tablet for playing games, which is why I NEED that PC port to happen so that I can finish the story. Really want to be able to read the second part to all 12 routes, but that won't be happening for quite a while if there'll be no PC port since I can't really afford a new console atm. ^^
Such a fantastic game and it would be great if they did make it available for PC I'd buy it again! so that those without the right console could play it too. It's a must for any Otome lover
I really hope it will be imported for both the occidental PS4 and PC in english! T_T
Only critic for me: the protagonists (I think mostly in the older games from 2009-2014) can be too dense, too helpless/passive and annoying sometimes - especially if you are a western female with another idea of female independence, equality & brainz to find solutions for problems together with the one you love. Not always - I think Chizuru of Hakuoki is an okay protagonist- , but in some games it was really...exhausting how much the protagonist stumbled the typicial "E-ehm..ah!" and looked like a frightened, overstressed squirrel all the time in CGs with cuddling or kissing lol >.< *hides Amnesia in the dark corners of her cupboard*).
Maybe that is something to solve/change while working at the translation. The cultural contexts/differences can be pretty complex as well and need work while translating.
But maybe that is subjective as well-maybe most of the players like such behaviour in an otome game and appreciate it or want it. Don't know.
I would appreciate the release of Vita games for the Pc, but I don't know how much interest/importance there is for that plattform companywise.
I have the feeling that handhelds seem to be much more the get/go of Idea Factory (maybe Mobile as well in the future) because in Japan there are much more people that play with them & are willing to buy the games, than on the western market ( I even don't know one person in my social environement that owns a Vita, most of them are Pc - or PS4 Players).
I have the feeling that Pc as a plattform is financially not that solid (does anyone remember the pirating with Amnesia in the past? And the reaction from the company afterwards, which I understood well. And then there is always the big and annoying elephant in the room: the problem with the japanese audio & the legal rights/copyright laws in Japan).
And Otome games are still kind of niche games (which is sad in my opinion) although I think the popularity for those games rose in the last few years. I think releasing more professional, really polished & good quality asian otome games would strengthen the interest for such games and the already existing community on the western market - and there are a lot of people like myself who really appreciate these games and are happy about every game they can lay their hands on.
So I'm happy they release such a nice game franchises like Hakuoki, which gives me hope for the future because I really like the games. I would be happyto see already established & translated games from the Vita on PC like Norn9, Code Realize, CollarxMallice, Bad Apple Wars, Princess Arthur (Mobile Version) or Sweet Fuse from the PSP. But I also want to see games like Death Connection, Hana Oni, Moujuutsukai to Ouji-sama, Shiratsuyu no Kai, Hiiro no Kakera franchise or Kaminaru Kimi to. Don't hide those treasures in the unending void of japanese translation only. That would be sad. They are all such nice games that a lot of people here in the western part of the world defenitely would enjoy - on the Pc (Mobile versions often tend to be kind of overly pricey in the long run). I'd rather pay once but the full price for a complete game.
Whoa I wrote a complicated, bad grammer driven novel again, I'm sorry T-T
I know what you mean when talking about how weak and sometime purely dumb seem some otome protagonist. I can (sort of) forgive the Amnesia protagonist since she have no memory etc, but in the few mobile otome I've read, the pathetic level is cringe-worty. Expecially the "embarassed" level of certain heroines when get phisical with the guy (be it a kiss or more...sometimes the feeling is almost as if the guy is forcing himself on the girl. Creepy.)
Chizuru in hakuoki gave me very different feelings with different guys (but all can change when I'll play the second part of the game) but with Harada and Hijitaka I felt she was little more than an ornament, a princess to protect, while with Yamazaki, Souma and Nagakura I felt she was more...active? With Nagakura she have her own belief and she can be even quite authoritarian too, and with him, Souma and Yamazaki I had the impression there is an actual a feeling of them being comrade.
Maybe is a more "modern" vision of the writers in the new routes? Maybe is just me that I have felt this while playng? I've still to play half the outes, so I still can't say for sure.
One thing surely that is detrimental to otome games in the west is the (still present) notion that girls don't play videogames =_= is depressing read certain forums where female players are seen as some kind of mithical creature.
The one problem I see on the PS4 port is that I assume they'll do the PS Vita "second half" port first (i.e., release the games the same way as in Japan). So I still thnk it'll be a case of getting Hakuouki Part 2 (for Vita for sure) in Spring 2018, then the PS4 version after that.
Code Realize Future Blessings was supposed to be localized this year (Vita). I'm really, really hoping for that. The question is whether Code Realize as a whole will come to PC. I think they'll wait and see what happens to Hakuouki KW on Steam first. Then again, I'm just guessing!!
Note: If you have a semi-decent mobile or tablet, and you want to play more Otomate stuff, Demon's Bond is generally pretty good. The one downside is that they didn't port the Japanese voice acting. But it makes the game smaller in terms of hogging memory. Also, this game is set in Hakuouki-verse but 260 years earier.
It's kind of funny that I play it more than my 3DS now. XD If you don't mind saving, though, a Vita is a great purchase if you love otome games!
I'd love to play those games in a big screen (CollarXMalice and Code: Realize are the first in my list. but Norn9 and Period: Cube sound interesting too), be it PS4 or PC, but having those games portable sound handy.
It can also play some psp games (downloaded sweet fuse from the ps store for it)
