I don't get how to farm golden balls for the achievement
Most annoying thing in the game, because it's seems that the chances are pure random, with no understandable mechanics. I try to kill high level mobs - sometimes that freack drop it, but mostly - no. I try do have long fights with tainted - 1 gb in a hour of constat hitting it with everything.
And to make the things worse - that ball don't live long, after some seconds it's just fly away. So I can see it after dodge boss's attack, but don't have enouch time to run and grab it.

And that thing hinder my gameplay, because I don't want to outlevel mobs before achieve it.

If there is any specific mechanic behind them, I never saw it. Mostly because this game has a lot of different 'mechanics' (the pikmin things, weapon swapping, stumpy or whatever his name is, spell research and trait unlocking, blah blah blah) but you can get through 99% of the game just mashing basic attack for ten seconds every battle.

You just aren't fighting long enough for any of the mechanics to even be noticable. I think all but two times the golden balls I picked up were gotten while the last enemy was in it's death animation already. I mean, talk about pointless.

Time is not working.
More then once I beat lvl 68 tainted with lvl 53 team near death for no balls.
And few times I receved GB just at the start of the battle.

If you're having trouble you are either:

1. missing the balls being thrown because they get thrown often

or

2. Don't have the proper castle upgrades to up the percentage yet.

I get gold balls all the time, even on regular enemies, just grind a little in the field and they pop up on useless fights often

You need awaken 49 times + 1 golden ball to unlock the achievement.
The easiest way:
1. The last boss battle - you can easily awaken.
2. Research: The last research at Lofty's building boost a lot. I played the 10th dreamer's maze 5 times, I got more than 10 golden balls.

You'll probably get this naturally if you're going for all achievements (I got a bunch of balls while doing skirmishes, although I don't think a skirmish ball can count as the 50th one). And, like Louis said, the last boss battle allows you to awaken, so you can farm here if you want.

Did you get the Ball Boy achievement? This can also be farmed. One of the easier ways to do it is to refight the fire shrine boss (the little volcano mounds he creates typically drop 3 balls each when you destroy them, so just wait for him to generate these things instead of killing him).

The gold balls from skirmishes do not count.
