Then, I went back to the first dreamers door area, grotty grotto and farmed it a bit. After about 30 minutes, I got some smelly shoes out of a chest. For other people here, it's the boss fight that drops them.
It's dumb that it requires level 3 loot for level 50 or so character . . .
I've heard tell that the chests in the grotty grotto dream maze can have smelly/stinky loot in it. There's also a merchant that can spawn in the mazes at random.
I HATE anything in a game that rewards luck, rather than skill. Its a gaming trope that needs to die.
Can confirm that the first dreamers door in Grotty Grotto even at the end of the game will drop items at the correct tier to complete this quest. I got myself a "useless" wand on my first run there tonight, then nothing for 18 runs before being trolled hard by RNG, giving me a "blunt" sword from a chest just after I killed the boss. The boss drop? A pair of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slippers that could have been smelly if that sword hadn't been pulled
In my rational mind, I should have just ignored it, the quest does not reward enough for the annoyance.
