Smelly Boots (Side Quest 117 - The Sweet Stink of Success)
So I didn't get this quest till around chapter 5 or so, and have just about gotten round to finishing any side quests I'd yet to do, currently sitting at the start of chapter 9 which I belive to be very close to end game... At this point is there ANY chance of me getting a pair of smelly boots? I have both Quality Control and Advanced Quality Control researched which bump up the quality of items dropped, meaning the lowest tier items I can find are at best 2 star quality...

Are Smelly boots even possible with these researched and if they are, what are the chances of finding them? Should I be farming low level mobs for a better chance at them? I've been trying to get them for the past 5 hours and have yet to recieve anything close to this. Will be extremely disappointed if this quest is no longer possible because I've gone too far into the game to complete it. Not having another way to obtain an item needed for a quest, regardless of how relevant that quest is, is extremely frustrating

The way I got them (Chapter 8) was to go to tactics tweaker and switch the lower left one (looks like square with 4 sliders) so that you get lower level loot, instead of rare. You'll know this is working when you fight low level enemies and get plain ordinary loot, not rare.
Then, I went back to the first dreamers door area, grotty grotto and farmed it a bit. After about 30 minutes, I got some smelly shoes out of a chest. For other people here, it's the boss fight that drops them.

It's dumb that it requires level 3 loot for level 50 or so character . . .

low level loot for a quest you get in chapter 8. Great decision, devs...

I've heard tell that the chests in the grotty grotto dream maze can have smelly/stinky loot in it. There's also a merchant that can spawn in the mazes at random.

I HATE anything in a game that rewards luck, rather than skill. Its a gaming trope that needs to die.

You also can loot them in the tenth maze.

the maze in the drylands cave is full of npcs. I found the dog merchant there selling them too.

Can confirm that the first dreamers door in Grotty Grotto even at the end of the game will drop items at the correct tier to complete this quest. I got myself a "useless" wand on my first run there tonight, then nothing for 18 runs before being trolled hard by RNG, giving me a "blunt" sword from a chest just after I killed the boss. The boss drop? A pair of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slippers that could have been smelly if that sword hadn't been pulled :Lacerator:

It took about 45 minutes of farming the grotty grotto for me to get it. It sucks that the game penalizes me selling stuff hours earlier. Did they troll us?

In my rational mind, I should have just ignored it, the quest does not reward enough for the annoyance.

not the only quest that wasn't thought through. there's one for a tart that you can't get til post game apparently. Plus, the citizen you get from doing all the dream mazes boosts productivity in the dimensional lab. A facility you'll have no use for once you've got her...

It's weird that alot of things don't become complete until after winning the game. Is this because they really designed it around future content and we need all the high powered loot dropped in faraway forest or those last 4 people and the level 4 kingdom? Otherwise it feels kind of empty.

Yeah this game is not as thought out in its quests as can be. I feel like giving up and pushing to the ending then calling it a day. Its so annoying having all these broken quests that need very sapecific things to work or niche things. Not worth all the hours to finish them. Then they troll you with a citizen you don't even need lol.
