Do I need to play Ni no Kuni 1 before this?

I'm interested in this game but have never played the 1st one, nor am I able to due to not having the right console or whatever. Do I need to have played it or can you play this one without any problems?

No you do not need to play 1 before 2 because 2 has nothing to do with 1

No, having just finished 1, I can tell you absolutely nothing, not even the world map is the same or related. Ding Dong Dell is the only thing the same, and the towns look totally different in both games.
Played 2 before 1 just fine, and only played the first because I missed 2 sol much ;)

There is no reference to the first game but a few costume easter eggs in 2.
