The grind is annoying
I really so loved this game. But then when my characters were level 31 and the mobs in the next story are were 42, and I had felt to be QUITE thorough, I really felt angered. I hate it when games do it, especially otherwise good games.

Damn

Try to go to lvl 43 area being lvl 30 (or going to lvl 30 area being lvl 20) . . . things get interesting :D
(but you also lvl up faster too and get better gear, making everything else faster and easier, like getting a 190 damage mallet when the best thing you had was a 89 damage, +91 mallet, or a 140 dmg spear when the best you had was a 76 dmg, +64 dmg spear . . . a +40 bow . . . a +60 sword . . . )

(EDIT: same thing with armor, rings and pendants . . you get better gear at higher lvl areas, harder fights where most or any monsters may 1shot you but the rewards and the fun battles pay off).

and then you get back fighting enemies on your level and you oneshot everything - what's the point?

That is a downside, but when I already got bored of fighting enemies of my lvl, the other enemies will feel like bosses or mini bosses ... Also that is always something higher lvl somewhere and that are the special glowing enemies of higher lvl on the world mapa or certain areas ... That will aways be some fun and challenge.

When the enemies of your lvl start to feel boring, why farming lvl and lower lvl itens on these, getting bored more and more with the grind, when you can have fun with more meaningfull enemies that will also speed up your lvl progression and gear?

The grind will be annoying if you go to lower lvl enemies expecting to lvl up fast and get better gear (to think like that is annoying as it dont even make sense).

If you always collect everything at an area then you collect everything near your path when you need to get back, you will 80% of the time have all itens to complete side quests so it also is no annoying.

As I've said, I never grinded for a second in the game. I just killed whatever happened to be in my way. I do play on exttreme though, so enemies my level already deal a lot of damage to me (well, some don'T, but most do).

Will post what I mean on youtube today when I get back from work (well, the better grinding battles I have at hand now at lvl 30~33).

The lvl 37 special enemy deal about 1000~1200 damage with normal attacks, 2500~3500 damage with his special attack, but my best is 1400 HP with Batu, I go Batu, Roland and Tani, but they both are mostly reserves for when I get 1shot so I can revive.
If I miss the cancel of his attacks I may get 1shot.

Btw, Cestus is much easier and less dangerous than Grimpopo lvl 37

Really, you have a grind problem? I think you level too easy in this game actually. I was playing on Expert and I eventually got to way too high a level for the enemies making the fights easy on expert. When I got to the octo boss in the cavern that's like lvl 30, I ended up being lvl 41 lol. Then by the time I got the airship I was 57 I think. If you're underleveled in this, you're to blame. Why? I plat this game on PS4 on normal difficulty and completed the plat requirements on steam and doing the dlc currently. I've never been underleveled apart from expert difficulty fighting lvl 10's at lvl 3 which was a insta death on hit basically. Well expert you get instakilled by alot if you're not overleveled lol.
But yeah, the game only can underlevel you if you skip battling enemies. Stop skipping fights. That's a rule of most RPG's. Don't say that you aren't because I'm positive you are. Clear the map going through every area and don't always trip door everything. If it's not a long distance travel the map. do some side quest, more so for the rewards and money. Etc. Also, being underleveled fighting in Ni no Kuni 2, you'll level up to the required level in seconds if you can win the fights. Which you should if you're playing normal as a 10 level under leveled fight in normal is easier than a even leveled fight on expert by far (Expert is basically a little more forgiving dark souls honestly in alot of cases, especially the tainted)

Essentially, if you're underleveled, you're not having a issue, spam skills and kill off the enemies and do it for a few fights, You'll see that you'll probably level once or twice per fight with overleveled enemies. Or use the experience boost tweak as the others aren't all that important honestly until end game and DLC stuff. Trust me, you're your own biggest issue in this game specifically. You're issue in general isn't that bad in modern RPG's. I don't think I've played one where you actually need to grind for the main game stuff in a while apart from Neptunia rebirth 1 when you face erither vert or noire for the first time. But I think the grind was literally like a second run through of the same dungeon and the rest was smooth and I've played ALOT of JRPGs. They aren't grindy if you actively fight enemies

You get 3x more XP in expert.

The grind is how JRPG do its feel of adventure. You're more likely to remember the game if you spend more time in it, do lots of quests and battles. But yeah, it's a bad trope.
The grind may be boring on easy and fighting enemies of your lvl or under your lvl.
At Expert and fighting enemies higher lvl than your lvl you not only is rewarded with much more XP but you also is rewarded with better weapons, gear and items, also more gold too.

The grind is not annoying if you get gud enough to fight higher lvl enemies at higher difficulties.

Like, literally . . . just check, at the beginning of the video I was lvl 32 some 80% to lvl 33, by the end of the video I was lvl 33 some 90% to lvl 34 and all I did was 3 battles against "normal" overleveled enemies and the battle against Tainted Grimpopo lvl 37, 4 battles, over 1 lvl in exp and some good items.
