What is your opinion of the "overworld" graphics view??
Hello

I just got NNK 2 a few days ago in the Winter Sale 2018 and at first glance thought it was going to be a cool game - like a lot of people I was attracted to the Anime Ghibli art style etc

I then after getting out the palace/castle in the beginning saw the "overworld" view - you guys will know what I mean - the characters look small and 3D and I wouldn't go as far saying it is ugly but it is a bad point IMHO

I am on the bit where you meet the Pirates and I am trying to rescue Tani etc and the graphics there look AMAZING

I do not understand why they just didn't keep THAT style of graphics for the ENTIRE game - I read somewhere that they used text as opposed to voice acting cause it would save costs etc

I think the other thing is that I need to do MORE research - cause when I did check out the game pre purchase and I did NOT know there was going to be an "overworld" view/mode in the graphics of the game.

I think if I spent MORE time and watched MORE of game play videos on YT and I would have found out and seen the "overworld" view.

I still thinks it's a nice game - I just think it's a blemish on an otherwise great game.. I guess I need to do MORE research before buying a game etc

What do you guys think???

I think it's fine. It's a jrpg so there is going to be some chibi stuff and it happens to be the overworld map. This wasn't a surprise since it's on game previews and videos.

Hey I had to check what "chibi" was and at first I thought you spelled Ghibli wrong and then I Google Searched and was like ooooohhhh that makes sense as to why they did it

I do watch some Anime and I am NOT a hardcore fan of it etc

I agree with you that I should have done MORE research - they are screenshots of the chibi "overworld" stuff on the Steam Store game page and also in parts of YT game play videos

If I spent MORE time and then I would have seen it - I will add that during MOST of the parts of the "overworld" mode it looks BETTER than the FIRST time you see it and so it is NOT as bad as you FIRST see it

I still think it is a good game and graphics are beautiful

I will DEFINITELY get some more games like this in the future
The chibi-ness is fine and they likely went that route to combat performance issues, given the scope and exploration aspects of the overworld.

I mean, look at how convenient this sort of top down style makes navigating your kingdom.

I would not describe the chibi ness as "fine" as I would prefer the SAME art style through out the game as it looks BETTER IMHO - you do have a good point as there may be some computers that could have performance issues at times (NOT my laptop though)

This is bandai namco we're talking about. No way they could optimize a big sprawling overworld with that ghibli art style.
As I loved the Ghibli-esque artstyle, the Chibi art style in the overworld is very dissapointing. The idea that the overworld and skirmishes are important aspects of the game and its story is undermined by the overworld models that wouldn't look out of place as stock models in some RPG Maker 3D. It's weird too, because in the first game the characters in the overworld still look the same, albeit a bit farther away. The rest of the game is beautiful, though, and gladly look forward to more content and games from this series.
It looks like some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ kawaii mobile game.
The first game got the world map right, looked so good it made you wanna explore the world.
I refunded because of this. The beginning was amazing, then it switched to this overview and it looked terrible.

its fine, but the story and dialogues are so childish and cringy most of the time..
I agree; I think it looks bad. But I think the rest of the game was fun enough to overlook it and still recommend it for action jrpg fans.

I think the story and dialogue were needlessly childlike, but it's clear that's what they were going for. I thought it was charming enough, although certainly not going to win any awards or impress a grown up.

I like the series, but I never cringed at a game dialogue like this one, it was just too much lol... (Still powered through and finished).

Oh definitely, this has to be right up there when it comes to the cringe factor, I've played the first game and although it's childish, it's also tolerable, I guess not that different from a Ghibli movie. But this 2nd game makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes haha

lol i know that feel. I guess it was made for under 12 specifically. How I can say it, its too family friendly and too naive, almost like a children book

Are you proud of yourself for this necromancy?

SHAME.

The map itself leaves a little to be desired, but no complaints. I like they chose this scheme instead of making it rich, bright hues made to appease the eyes of 9 year olds.
I think the map is OK, the problem comes from the cringy dialogues, childish story and lack of voice acting in most of the game. You can feel the target here is the kids, its really a kids fairy-tail oriented game.

1. I agree that this is the big flaw, but every adult here knew this before buying it.

2. The thread is about the world's graphics.

3. It's an OLD thread.
