Help! Cannot launch game.
So I've pre-purchased the Prince's Edition on Humble Store weeks and pre-installed it before release. When I try playing it a window opens up (not fullscreen for some reason) for the game with the favicon and a second smaller windows window that's saying "Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom Application has stopped working" with "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Needless to say I tried restarting multiple times, verifying game cache files, updating both my graphic drivers and windows 10 software to the latest version. I reset my laptop, uninstalled and reinstalled Ni no Kuni, disabled my anti-virus (Vipre), I have no VPN or any recording software / duplicate screens. I even tried running the file from the folder in administrator mode. Nada.

I'm running this on a Gigabyte Aero 15, with a i-7700, GTX1060, 16G of RAM, and Win 10 so more than enough grunt in terms of specs. I've looked at steam support here, but nedless to say they slackasses pawn it back off on the "game company site" which is a 404 non existent page, and of course this discussion forum.

What's more, I've tried running a few other games and they all seem to be working perfectly fine. So it's only Ni no Kuni.

Has anybody had similar issues in the past, with any game in particular? I cannot for the life of me work out what could be causing this issue.

Sounds like some overlay issue to me. Had that happen a few times when trying to get RTSS to show FPS or statistics with other games.

Or sweetfx or similar.

Don't have RTSS, Sweetfx or any of that stuff so can't be that.

No overlay at all eh? kk

In that case it is guaranteed that the following will "fix" your issue.

- update to your most recent display driver
- if it already is the most recent, do a clean install of it
- do a steam verification check
- restart your system
- disable everything unrelated to what is needed to play the game

If it still doesn't run, throw your pc out of the window and buy a console.

If he did, his game would run by now.

FYI there's a difference between installing the latest drivers and doing a clean install. If you don't know the difference. BUY A FREAKING CONSOLE.

Well this silly person runs the game perfectly fine with around 100 fps @1620p on a 980ti. No stutter, no crashes, no issues at all.

From my perspective, the silly ones are the people unable to configure their sytems to get a game running as it should without help.

But please, go on with your "help" in resolving this "issue".

Your perspective would change in a heartbeat if you had any sort of problem with this game or any other because you'd have no fkin clue what to do based on your posts. Iam guessing youre new to pc gaming (or just a moron) there are 1000s of possible hardware configurations that the developers have to consider when porting a game. Sometimes you draw the shortstraw and the game simply wont run or runs like ♥♥♥♥ for you for seigmingly no reason, but runs fine for 98% of people.

Id recommend a refund or wait for patches/community fixes.

LOL

Not likely since i actually know from my experience when the game is at fault and when not. That's like at least 90% more compared to most people whining here about problems.

I recommend ignoring this d_i_p_sh__it since he has no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ he's talking about. If anything refund the game and use the money to get an education about how to configurate your system correctly.

Or just get a book and learn about it yourself. A lot better than refunding every game because you're too stupid to configure your system tbh.

No need for fights guys. I appreciate all attempts at help here. I have updated to the most recend display drivers, and I've even taken your advice and did a clean install, verified game file integrity, restarted and no luck. I launched straight into Steam, so nothing else was fired up that could interfere.

Buying a console is not an option and there's no point in getting a refund since it's not a game issue, but something with compatibility between that game in particular and my laptop. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

I had issues with Sins of a solar empire and the new w10 setting file protection to disable unwanted file edits/deletes after disabling that i could run it. And Ni No Kuni 2 doesn't seem to like apps like Teamviewer

No Teamwiever installed either. Could you elaborate on how you went about disabling file protection? I'm a little lost in your wording there.

Its called protected folders sorry, but it has to be enabled manually so i guess its not the issue for you here is the info :
