Lack of voice acting?
Before the defense force gets at me for having a different opinion: I think this game is awesome! The story has hooked me in so far along with its fun combat system. But I feel like a lot of interaction in this game is not voiced, which isn't necessarily a terrible thing, but it does take me out of the experience a bit, in my opinion. It was especially jarring after the opening sequence of the game where a lot of interaction was just text based. I have around 5 or 6 hours in the game now, and still have the same opinion. Does anybody else feel the same?

I love the game so far; but everytime i have dialogues without the voice over (which is 90% of dialogues), i can't help be think "this would have been so great if it was fully voiced".
The few voiced part we have is great, so i can't help thinking about it.

They took the concept of ghibli movies in RPG to improve the story telling, but they cut most of telling the story. I find it contradictory.
It's been years that we get fully voiced RPG with tones of dialogues and multiple choices (Divinity Original Sin 2 did it just few month before it's released, and it didn't had any cost to the price, which was only 45€).

I'm guessing this is more a "japanese thing" like FF 13 and it's corridors ... which SquareEnix tryed to defend with "well, westerns can't understand, this is a japanese thing" ... nooo, it was bad design and bad decision only... nothing to do with "japanese thing".
JRPG is a japanese thing (and i love it since my childhood in 90's).
Lack of vision and ambition is NOT a japanese thing.

If i had to compare Ni no kuni 2 with Divinity Original Sin 2, both games are great material (as JRPG and CRPG); but Larian did it to pour as much passion blood and tears as they could, while Namco and Level-5 just did "good enough" and didn't seems to be intrested by "beyond".

I love NNK2 so far; but if they added diffulty settings and fully voiced chacaters, that would have been for me "The Witcher 3" of JRPG.

Please Namco, i don't care if it takes 4 month or one year, add fully voiced characters; this game deserve it.

Panopticon I've only played Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, and to some extent I can see what you're saying, but in my opinion, in a character driven story heavy RPG a lot of dialouge should be voiced. In Yakuza, the focus is on a wacky (and sometimes serious) story but for the most part the remakes have lengthy voiced cutscenes and character interactions. I don't think voiced interactions are necessary for every single game, like Zelda for example, that don't really rely on its characters or character interaction to construct a narrative.

The game would be much better with voice acting. It's a missed opportunity as I'm sure the game's rating would be higher on metacritic if it did.

I don't mind the lack of voice acting atleast the main character has a voice unlike other games that should have had a voice for the main character, IE: DA:Origins, every character in the entire game has a voice but you

Ah that's true regarding Yakuza and this now that I think of it. Though I think a Zelda with voice acting could be very interesting. If it's highly disliked then they could go back to the roots but I do would like to see at least once what they could do with it. (Then again my favorite Zelda is the 2nd one on the NES, I have weird opinions :duranceleft::duranceright:)
Zelda not having voices is not a problem as it's not story based game.

My son for instance is a master in tapping like his life depends on it to skip dialogues in Zelda ASAP. Probably most people play the game like that. They're far more interested in doing stuff than in dialogues.

But for a game like Ni No Kuni where there's a cutscene every 5 seconds, you have to make sure those cutscenes are actually worth it because they're such a large part of the experience.

As for Yakuza, that's not an AAA game. It's priced lower, gets discounts faster and sales are overall not that high. Also the game reuses assets and gameplay systems all the time. Those aren't big budget risky games. You can't put them on the same level as the other mentioned.

I dissagree, there's a reason why the main character has no voice in DA: Origins: Because there are many different dialogue options, many different characters you can create and he's a blank slate.

Or She, cause you could have picked male or female, but yeah even the new FC 5 coming out has no voice acting as well for the main character

I have to say lack of voice acting is a bit disappointing. Ok, yes, this is common practice in JRPG's but in this game it seems it's even more noticeable since so much of it is just text based. Previous JRPG titles I've played (for example Tales of Berseria) had a lot more voice acting and then some text based scenes when you talk to random townspersons etc. At least all the main talking bits and cutscenes had voices. In this game conversation migh start voiced and suddenly in same conversation change to text based. It's really jarring. You would think that a big title like this would have mostly voiced conversations.

This game is AAA and $60 (and $60+ in many other countries) and only a little voice acting. No excuse tbh
