PC vs PS4
Which platform was this game natively built on and designed for? Is there an FPS lock of 30FPS on PS4 and unlocked FPS on PC? What about graphics (texture size differences, etc)? I could buy on both platforms, and honestly my PC can handle anything I throw at it, but I do prefer to buy my JRPG games on PS4 simply because I love the console experience, but I usually won't do that if the PC versions are 1) solid ports and 2) have better graphics/FPS.

I know the game isn't released yet, so for now I'm just asking about facts that have gone out, maybe stuff the devs/publisher has confirmed.

Are you stating a fact? If so, do you have a source?

this game like all ps4 games was built on a PC, they are both good options, PS4 is worry free for the most part but I'd go PC if you trust your rig. PS4 games are easier to port than older consoles if I'm not mistaken so they should be fairly similar

I played the demo at Gamescom and it definitely does run at 60 fps on PS4, didn't notice any drops either.

It's a sequel to a PS3 exclusive therefore you should obviously be playing it on the PS4. And who the ♥♥♥♥ plays JPRGs on PC? That's not immersive and feels like ♥♥♥♥. What else? Zelda on PC? LOL.

Actually, there's two versions of the first game and the only one we Westerners have is the longer "Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch", which is on PS3.

Thanks to everyone for contributing to the discussion so far. I do apologize that threads like this inevitably become a "PC master race" thing, however I am really hoping for some more constructive feedback. I think great discussion here will eventually help others asking the same question. I do have both platforms, and I ask this question to find which platform to play the game on that yields the best experience (not just in graphics and FPS, but control & quality of gameplay as well). It's a good way to avoid bad ports and such.

Bandai Namco generally have quality PC ports but I'd keep the PS4 version in mind if I had a PS4 like yourself since I'm inevitably going to play this on a controller anyway. (Who plays JRPGs on keyboards?)
As I said above also, it definitely did run at 60 FPS on the PS4 at Gamescom 2017, but I don't know if it was a PS4 Pro or not.
In any case, if you just want to be safe, pick up the PS4 version if you want to pre-order or get it on PC later when people confirm the port is good.

Buying it on PC means you'll be able to play it for practically forever without having to dig old hardware out of a box. Between native DS4 controller support and Big Picture mode, the differences between Steam and PS4 are quite narrow.

I am definitely wary of bad ports though. Even companies that have released good ports in the past have been known to fumble a release from time to time. Fortunately, with the refund policy, you get a two-week window to see if it's playable to your satisfaction. Worst case scenario, pick up the PS4 version if there are issues with the PC version. If the PC version is eventually fixed, you can always pick it up on sale. Best-case, you have all the benefits of the PS4 Pro version.

"Preordered games that have been released are still eligible for a refund, as long as the refund request is submitted within two weeks of the game's release, and the game has been played for less than two hours."

I hope I helped!
Just in case, here's how the game looks running on PC at 4K @ Max Settings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_Vp2C79LAI&feature=youtu.be

Same draw distance, same fps, same resolution.
