How active is the game?

A friend and I are considering getting the game, but I am extremely frugal. I want to make sure I get my money's worth, specifically in time played.
How active are the servers/lobbies/whatever? And will they stay that active for the foreseeable future?

I see they made a recent WW1 update, but the game is still 5 years old, so I was worried about the playerbase. I am also more interested in the Napoleonic setting, so has the WW1 addition hurt the Napoleonic playerbase?

i bought this game 3 years ago, and i can assure you that your money will be worth, the community is great. i play only on napoleonic wars so i can't tell you exactly the WW1 servers situation, but for what i know for much part of the day are kinda desrt, 10-30MAX. players online. On napoleonic wars you'll always find players and very active servers. Hope that i helped you

In terms of how active, I usually play every evening and there is always a full Napoleonic server.
Sometimes there's some pop in Naval Battles and Frontlines (ww1 mode) but it is less common. Napoleonic is the bread and butter of the game though, there is always a server of 150 people.

Would it be worth buying the Napoleonic DLC for the game or is just owning the main game good enough, Just brought the game recently but just wondering which dlcs are worth it.

I get severe rubber banding on those servers, I can't play it. I didn't used to. Is it just me, or is everyone just tolerating it?

There is almost always a full 150 player server or two online. In addition there's semi-daily community events with even larger servers
