i play from South East Asia region, usually play with 300 ping on US server and 200 on EU (i'd say those 2 region are the one you will mainly play in), but its playable.
There's a slight hit reg issue if i attack fast moving target sometimes but once you get used to it, its pretty consistent (and most of the time you'll be shooting at a static or slow moving target anyway)
as for content, there's plenty and more to be added.
Community is active, you can join regiments and stuff to play line battle events if its a thing you'll be interested in.
one thing to keep in mind is that public lobby are obviously less organized most of the time and its more of a bunch of small skirmishes. Sometimes a bright and charismatic commander showed up and managed to rally some mass to do charge, line battles, etc.

A 150 server near full at any point of the day, either US or Europe, plus some in Naval or other and daily linebattle with 200 in it.
Just my opinion. Please don't get out the flamethrowers...
Vive la France! (Jumps in air.)
No flame throwing, totally get why ppl would feel like that, some times. How good/bad is your ping ? I ask because I do understand that for aussies/kiwis it must be difficult being a public server player oriented player. I don't like battles but I have the luxury of decent ping to give me options. If the only option our southern hemisphere friends has is a few organised events and that doesn't appeal, than yeah that must suck a little. Public play is a bit of a lottery, sometimes you get a good bunch who play the way you enjoy the game and sometimes you don't and it can be frustrating. Me, I like semi organised public play, where a bunch of strangers suddenly click as a team and awesome things happen. But I get for others, I'm an annoying tryhard who should be doing the cha cha slide in the spawn with the rest of the cool kids instead of being a whiney ****. As I said the public side of the game is a lottery. Please check out this place before you completely throw in the towel. https://discord.gg/uqDuPj7 This is pub hub, the unofficial home for Holdfast public server players. It's unofficial but some of AGS are members so we must be doing something right : )
