Line men vs. Riflemen
Am I the only one who can aim better with the linemen then the rifle? But I find the riflemens melee saber better then the linemens bayonet?

I feel like I am backwards. Hahaha.

Okay, unsure what you're really asking but if its about the differences between Riflemen and Linemen is, then I know historically.

Riflemen- Practically the old way of saying sniper, good at longer ranges not close

Linemen- Infantry at the time, best suited for Med-Short range Battles/Charges

Im just kidding I dont know historically, this is what I remember from an old thing I watched

I mean more in game. I get a lot more hits as linemen then riflemen, is it just because I'm used to the musket? Am I over compensating for bullet drop with the rifle? How different are they?

That I'm unsure of but it probably just luck bud, hope you find an answer to that if it isnt Luck

Wait I was reading a guide in an attempt to find stuff for Support and Command roles and found this, hope it helps in anyway!
*********************************************************************************************************

Infantry Musket
This smoothbore gun is the most common weapon in game. Accurate from short to medium range, it has a slow reload speed, and emits quite a bit of smoke upon being fired, which can block your sight. Best used en masse to demoralize/murder the opposing forces.

Cavalry Musket
This gun is a smaller, more compact version of the Infantry Musket, generally used by Dragoon Cavalry and French Riflemen during the Napoleonic Era. Generally rather inaccurate, they're quite useless for sharpshooting, but are great en masse.

Rifle
The Rifle is an excellent weapon used by Riflemen during the Napoleonic Era. Great at all ranges, this gun takes longer to reload than the Infantry Musket, but pays off with amazing accuracy. In-game, the Rifle requires some adjustment to aim above an enemy's head to hit effectively, but once you've got that covered, the Rifle becomes a deadly weapon to score shots from tens of metres away!

Musket classes have a lot more rng than rifles which is why they tend to miss more but at close range rng doesn't really come into effect. I also tend to miss more with rifles than muskets but thats because I play rifle less than musket and also tend to go for far more ambitious shots with it which more often ends up missing.
As to the melee, the saber and sword are the most op melee weapons in public games right now because they're so fast and because of how laggy the servers often are means they're incredibly hard to block/avoid

As I stink at melee combat the rifle is for me. Like to play at long range and the rifle works great. Park in a bush, learn how to aim at range, wait for the recticlue to shrink completely, then squeeze and pop and watch them drop. Dropped 9 in one round at quite a range by parking behind a rock near the enemy spawn point. The random number generator Gods must have been in my favor last night as I dropped one enemy right after another. Only problem with the rifleman is the limited number available, 6, per round. Usually have to try for several rounds before I am fast enough (ping) to get one. Lucas McCain

Rifle is great for beginners but generally viewed as an easy option by more experienced players, and no one respects a riflemans score because, well, he's a rifleman. Once you have your tactics, movement and map knowledge down (these are worth 9 kills) switch to musket. Musket gets way more respect. I would recommend Light Infantry although I don't think theres a massive amount of playable difference between any of the musket classes. Also theres no feeling like taking out a Rifle guy with a musket or even better bayonet while he's flapping his little sword around.

I agree that was the case, that rifleman scores weren’t respected, have you tried getting to the top spot as a rifleman since the score nerf? You know I used to consistently be there but now, it’s much much more difficult. There are only usually one or two rifles in the top 5. Even the kill numbers have gone down for rifles... ah the days of 60 kills to zero deaths... happy days (well not from all the people that didn’t stand a chance). I think rifles can be more difficult than say, light infantry now. And the cannon.......
Ikthallion Jan 4, 2019 @ 4:09am
Top spots for rifle now are harder to get because they dont get the bonus's the other classes get, which is fair enough as it's an easier class to shoot with than a musket, which forces you to work harder for a top spot ( if you get a top spot now with rifle you have genuinely earnt it ). You still contribute to your teams K/D ratio too, so from a team perspective it's not really important.
It do's seem harder to hit someone now though, but whether it's down to reduced rifle accuracy, or that shooting in general isn't quite what it was before the melee "fix" I dont know.
Top scores nowadays are often got with a musket/bayonet, partly down to the animation canceling people routinely employ.

My mistake I should have said KDR not score. As ikthalion said the Riflemans score has been nerfed so he doesn't get bonus points but the Rifle itself hasn't been changed so you should in theory be able to kill just as many as always. I don't play rifle (well extremely rarely) so can't comment from experience on this. My gut feel is that there are a lot more people who are confident and profitient with a musket nowadays, so maybe thats why the good old lambs to the slaughter days are over for the rifleman. At risk of sounding big headed I'd back myself with a musket against a good 75% of the guys who play rifle. Not that I'm that good, just a lot of guys who grab the rifle slot are that bad.

Too bad some people cannot read a basic premise in the first line of a paragraph and fell the need to diss someone who has already called attention to their lower skill level. So, to the more perfect Musketeers, let one say eat another candy bar kido. Some only play for fun and the love of gaming. Taking it one step further, what scoring system, the one in the game manual? And now, let's go deeper into the well of mystery of the game for the slower class of player. Recently started getting 1000 points or more for just playing a flute. To the boo birds above, could you please define what is wrong with choosing a fifer?

Nobody has offended you and you fell offended?
Since the games beginnigs rifleman was OP class without any flaws and it was choosed almost instantly even when they was 10 per side in publics...
They dont stink in melee, dont have longer reload speed, but thanks to developers they have lesser points for killstreak because of ... easy mode at aiming, whats is good, because i saw many times as rilfmans players praise themself for score, when it is nothing hard to acomplish with rifle - it was pathetic at least.

When you just spamming attack without any block, sword is also way better for new players than bayonets so where are the flaws for rifleman?

You like your fighting style, it your candy as you say, but rilfeman being OP class good for players with lesser knowledge and skill is a simple fact.

Ah yes, KDR is still pretty high, but not as high as it was by a long shot. Most of the good players that you used to see as riflemen have now changed to lights or medics and they tend to get the most kills using melee as far as I can tell. You know me, I am usually a rifle, but when I play light, I find it much easier to get in the top 5. (I play rifle purely as I help the team reduce enemy tickets more... and I like the green jacket)

I would agree with you rin9 when you say its OP, but many times I see new players playing as rifle, and being way down low on the scoreboard. Plus there are many people like the OP that find rifle more difficult. Not meaning to sound rude, have you had much experience with the rifle after the nerfs?

Mmmmm, the Flute player is so much better, placing top 10 most rounds. Looney Toons rides again. Which player will you choose when you are in your 7th decade of life? The Medic....
