How do I play music in-game?
I'm using foobar and for some reason it won't let me play any music when I'm in game.

I'm sort of the music-guy for my regiment so any help would be appreciated.

If you're talking about external music (not fifer, pipes, drums) then you'll need to use a virtual cable, then select it as the default audio output on your computer.

I could be wrong in the method, though you do need a virtual audio cable

1. Download and install this: https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/
2. Go to File, Preferences, Playback and then Output
3. Select CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) in the Device section right at the top.
4. In Holdfast, go into Settings, Audio and change your input device to CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable). Now whenever you play any audio through foobar and you use your mic in game it will play whatever is being played in foobar.

Note: With this method you cannot use your normal mic at the same time and you will have to switch between them when needed. You may also need to restart your PC when the Virtual Audio Cable is installed but i personally didn't have to.

Btw, if you're going to use this in public games, please don't play ear rape. I'm fine with people playing music in game as long as it isn't too loud or ear rapey (i do it occasionaly myself). I would also advise you to not spam it all the time either and try to only play music when appropriate eg during charges, last stands, at the ends of games etc. If you spam it like crazy the first couple of days will feel great but after than you will burn out on it and it won't have the desired effect on people anymore. Spamming it all the time also means that you're more likely to be muted as people don't like it and as such if you try to communicate with your team and use your normal mic those people won't hear you at all.

A follow up to what Kurous said. I've muted lots of ppl now to the point where I can see their little speaker icon flashing at me but have no idea if they are trying to talk to me or are still spamming music. Personally, I really don't like the in game music that ppl play and for me it's instant mute, so it's unlikely I will ever be co operating with these ppl in voice chat in game. If you want to play music thats your choice but just be aware that a lot of the community will mute you instantly and thats really difficult/almost impossible to undo.

make sure u are not system muted (i.e. volume all the way down.) and also make sure in game music is unmuted aswell.

I would also suggest only playing music this way when appropriate. I dont mind it occasionally, but it interfers with gameplay and communication. Most people will mute you if your being annoying with it, so you'll be playing to a deaf audience if you choose to do this.

It appears CABLE Input isn't an option in Holdfast, do you mean CABLE Output, because that's the only CABLE setting available.
