What does the lamp do?

Yes it sounds like a dumb question but I can still see just fine without it. Is there some other game mechanic about it? Does it affect the monsters in some way?

Hi. The lamp is mainly so that you can see, though your mileage might vary :)
Also, yes, some monsters are attracted by its light.
