I notice it comes when you take damage from bosses in the Castle level and leaves a green skull icon over your player (and any deployed turrets that the boss hits).
Dying seems to be the only way to remove this debuff, and the debuff's effect is unknown.
Food reduces 4-cell difficulty infections.
Sure enough the Castle infection adds to your infection bars, but are you trying to deny my point by saying no? You could've just said "it also does x and x".
