Make Homunculus Rune not lethal

So, I just finished my first playthrough, and immensely enjoyed the game. However, I got the Homunculus Rune and I am now able to pop my head off... and kil enemies at a distance, with no damage to myself whatsoever. It is not fun, and not using this option is simply silly. So, please, you do not have to remove the damage of this rune, just make it an option, so we can set it for ourselves. I want to play some more, but at the present state I would just cheese through the game. Thanks!

How is not using it "simply silly"? You've already described why it's not silly: it's an insanely boring, inefficient, stupid, and slow way to play, and probably won't be feasible on the highest difficulty (5BSC) where time is a huge factor. Anyway, there's already an option for it; it's called learning the slightest, teeniest, tiniest modicum of self-control and simply not doing it. FFS...

Why, though? I've had no problem just doing what I've always done after my first HotK kill, only now I sometimes use the Homunculus Rune to kill enemies in extremely impractical spots (like a Lancer in a secret room)

If you want some sort of cheese, you'd probably be better off with some sort of weird setup with actual weapons. That way you might also get an advantage against bosses, because the Homunculus Rune definitely won't be much good against one compared to even a suboptimal weapon setup
