It was pretty smart at the time, since players had no reason to think they could break that door, since there was no reason to not spend all their cells. And so, only players who already had unlock all the things would start to ask themselves: "hey, how am I gonna do with that door?".
But I have to say, it makes much less sense since we have the forges.
I do get the new players thing actually, I didnt think of that
Instead give the collector a line which reminds you to turn in cells and(or blueprints, that should be enough as a reminder and does not interrupt the flow of the game.
Before the forge , the reason to not spend cells is if you already have unlock everything ^^
The door is still there.
This. What exactly is the point of punishing a player for not wanting to spend the cells? The risk of losing it all after an unfortunate death is not enough for you? I mean you guys need to chill your tits with the constant need for going ever more hardcore.
The point of punishing the player is that the collector needs your cells for his own experiments. Because spoilers.
