It literally does less damage when it crits than regular swords do when you do a normal hit from the front. Blood sword I does about 100 damage a swing + a bleed, Assassin's Dagger does like 90 damage a crit.
Besides, if it's confirmed devs are looking at it, saying "NAH IT'S FINE" is kind of useless. If you think it's fine, rejoice! It's going to be that much better for you now! Yay, buffs!
Further investigation shows that even at its current attack speed it is just straight mathematically inferior. Don't get me wrong - I like dagger runs for the increased challenge - but that is exactly what it is.
As for the rapier? I feel like it needs a cooldown on it's ability to crit. 100% uptime for dodging when you are supposed to is nuts!
It's a high risk, low reward weapon. Just needs it's backstab damage upped a little bit more, or simply have the base damage adjusted, in order to be worthwhile. I'd rather use the Whip or Spear even.
Assassin's Dagger basically does primary damage for what's special about the weapon. It's garbage.
The "PS" part of DPS is irrelevant in a game like this. It's not like you're ever in protracted boss battles like you are in WOW where you have to burn an enemy from 7 bajillion health. I'd rather count number of swings til an enemy is dead, than number of seconds.
Also, because it does less damage per attack, it doesn't stun as quickly meaning it often takes LONGER to actually get that damage out, because you can't just keep swinging.
ALSO ALSO, because it's got shorter range, it's worthless against enemies that get in your face because you physically cannot come into contact with their hitboxes. The big skeleton dudes in the Ossuary come to mind. When they teleport onto you, it pushes you into the air a bit and you literally cannot connect with your weapon against them. When you roll and start attacking, their weird hitboxes from how his leg sticks out behind him pushes you back to the point you don't connect a lot of the time.
