Stuck after beating Hand of the King

As title says, I beat the final boss and afterwards there is no prompt near the fountain to go back to the begining.
I had bloody epic run, like... insanely fun run, but I now I can't finish it.
Tried quit, continue, same thing.

Try tossing your head in the fountain. press the right joystick or V (if you're playing with the keyboard + mouse)

you'll always get stuck like this after beating Hand of the King more than once unless you remove the slime from your ninja body.

man this just happened to me too - I completely forgot about the head separating ability. it's kinda the one ability that didn't immediately make me think "oh THAT's how I get to that place in that one level." It really needs a common use case - like wall jump, or vine rune, or ground pound - to cement it in your brain when you first get it IMO.

and regardless, there *should* be a button prompt after beating the king the second time when you're standing by the fountain - it's the only way you can progress, and in other areas, like vine rune sites, you get a button press prompt. the fountain should really follow suit.

halp, i press the stick and/or v an nothing happens. is that a skill i have to unlock first? am i stuck here now? time keeps running :(

If you've beaten the Hand once, you'll be a blob. Exit via the fountain. You'll get an "Exit" prompt when you're in the right place, as a blob.

If you've beaten the Hand again, use homunculus and exit via the fountain.

I am sorry, I don't get it. Playing on PC with keyboard and mouse:

After beating the "Hand of the King" I stood on top of the fountain. Hitting "V" does not seem to do anything. What is it supposed to trigger? I looked up my "Options", and the key "V" does not seem to be mapped to any action I could find. Would someone please be so kind to describe what to do in an idiot-proof way (i.e. ready for me to be grasped)?

I am also not aware of a "head-separating ability" mentioned in another posting of this thread. What is this? I mean, I beat one of the bosses but I am completely unaware of it, and I can't identify it in the keyboard mapping menu. What is this "head-separating ability" ?

I am reasonably sure that I tried every key on my keyboard while standing on the fountain. What am I supposed to do for god's sake to exit this level?

This is late, but I am giving an answer here because I did not easily find one searching for it - I was in the same situation, I had killed the Hand of the King for the first time, was still in human form, and no way to continue. Every answer mentions the need to be a blob, and even how to turn into a blob. But, at that point, it does not work yet.

After killing the Hand of the King the first time, you need to R1 (action) at the sitting king on the throne. That triggers a cutscene, end credits, and turns you into a blob the first time, after the credits.

I'm in the same situation, that's so frustating !! After all the pain to get there...

I killed the Hand of the King on my first try at him, pick the first cell, and i am stuck here... Still in human form with no ability to blob or whatever it will be (spoil myself because of this bug...)
And i can't talk to the king, "action" button is doing nothing near him....

I had a similar problem. First time I beat him I seemed to get stuck. The solution was to attack the king with the symmetrical sword the HOTK drops (not sure if any weapon would work). You break the kings shield and a cutscene begins.

I did try to break the shield with all my different powers and weapons, but i did not think of pick up that green weapons on the ground.

As a matter of fact, now that i looked at it closely, it says on the description of the weapons thant it "can break shields" and 'cannot be sold' . So 100% my bad to not read that carrefuly...
