Cannot progress past throne room

I have no idea if this is a bug or something I did wrong . First time I picked the game back up in 2 years :) . But I ran through about 1 hour 20 mins beat everything got to the throne room to the king boss who spawns the elites and hides like a wimp :) but when I RB on the door to exit I couldn't leave. It asked me for 5 boss cells which I didn't have so I am stuck at the end of the boss run for eternity or wipe the lot and start again . Not gonna happen. Is it a bug or did I miss something? T.I.A

So! When you've done the throne room more than once - the last permanent artifact you get is the homunculus thing - that allows you to exit your body by pressing "V". Go do that, and you'll be able to leave the throne room by oozing over and around the water fountain. When you're in the right spot, the game will pop up with a message, almost like its a door, "Press R to Leave."
