Steam init.... error
I just wanted to hop in for some more deadcell after the last upgrade, but now this error window is greeding me.

i tryed rebooting,
restarting steam,
running everything as admin,
tried it yesterday and today,

Win 7 and drivers are up to date.
I dont know what to do as this error seldomly comes up in search and if so mostly in games that need a seperate client.

would appreciate any help and am happy to provide more info.
cheers

Edit: thx AmericanTaco for jumping in with a fix.

I can confirm : it now works again after reinstalling steam.

as a sidenote you just have to do it manually,
no need to copy steamapps or any other stuff just:

1. delete everything in your main steam folder without the steamappsfolder
2. download steamclient http://store.steampowered.com/about/ and reinstall it.

If you happen to have your games in another folder you have to reestablish that folder,
for example by clicking on one of your games in the library and choosing the path you had them installed to. you can cancel the installation ofc as your games will already be back to installed status by now.

For info on the whole deinstallation progress https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9609-OBMP-2526.
But again , you just need the 2 easy and fast steps above to make it work again.

Hey! Sorry to hear that. Could you provide us a screenshot of the error window?

Hey! thx for getting into this.
sure can , hope this works via steam:

meanwhile I tried deleting my save, the whole game, verified the cache and reinstalled the game, but nothing seems to influence the matter.

Does it happen only with Dead Cells?
Rivll Jul 12, 2017 @ 8:57am
yes, sry forgot to mention that, but otherwise i would have contacted steam about it every other game i tried works just fine.

Ok, thanks! It's quite strange so I wanted to confirm that before we look into the Steam API. We have open an issue, but keep us in the loop if something changes.

Ok, thank you for your time and quick response.

Hey again! Could you check if your Steam is up to date in the steam app? (Steam tab -> check for Steam Client Updates)
Rivll Jul 13, 2017 @ 6:00am
Hey,
ya it says it is already up to date. (just tried twice more to be save)
I tried that one when i thought it might have something to do with failed update from either the game or steam.
Iam pretty sure i tried everything I can initiate or force on my end sadly.

Thanks for the info. Will get back to you when we find something.

I'm curious about this, I've got the same issue.

same here. haven't been able to play since 2 updates ago. original error was uncaught exception : access violation.

Same here as well.. It works on my other computer but just not my laptop

Quick update: I uninstalled and then reinstalled Steam and it fixed the problem.. Unfortunately it also deletes all the games from your computer

just to be sure, you had the very same error window pop up?
redownloading and reinstalling a ton of games isnt rlly an option....is there a way to simulate a steam reinstallation by deleting a specific part of it for example?

Ouch... thanks for the feedback... and for the sacrifice.

@bsephansson and Rivll: Would it be possible to try uninstalling Steam and reinstalling it? Sorry to ask you that, but it would help to know if this fix works for everyone.
