I'm a new player and I got stuck at 2bc as well. I looked up some strong build combinations and farmed items and then tested what worked for me and blitzed right through to 5bc pretty easily. Once you have a playstyle you can use custom mode to limit all the items you've unlocked down to 20 to ensure you'll be able to make your build in the run. Achievements will still be enabled :)
Try practicing Hand of the King through the boss rush gate. Really, learn what to expect from his moves. I used to struggle against him a lot, too.
It takes time to get used to the timing and predicting his moves from the cues the game gives you, at first. I used to die to him everytime at first. It took me 13.5 hours to finally beat him for the first time at BSC 0. It was around BSC 3 (around 75 hours) where all of his attacks finally clicked in my brain and since then he's been very easy to deal with.
A few tips:
1. The fight ALWAYS starts with him swinging his sword once towards you, so just dodge-roll behind him and bash into him until his first attack ends.
2. When you see him flying high up in the air (the section where he'll spawn a bunch of enemies on the stage), this is probably the best time to heal.
3. I'd recommend the Armadillopack mutation (if you have it) with any shield in your backpack slot and Combo mutation. The Armadillopack really helps with dealing with his attack where he drops a bunch of bombs around (You can dodge-roll into them and launch them at him).
4. (not the fight-related, but still) Fully upgrade the item forge (the % of rarity + / ++ / S found) that's available to you.
I've recently completed my first BSC 4 run and to be honest, without those two mutations, I'd be screwed.
Once you get comfortable with him, he's without a doubt the easiest Tier 3 boss.
