He never really said that. What he said was that the game was completed but implied that once Evil Empire realized they could milk the player base to add content indefinitely that pissed off Motion Twin who weren't getting the credit for that realization.
So yeah super salty.
He did say that MT dropping further dlc for a new game is their original design philosophy.
And since they originally made cell phone games, that makes sense but seems like an odd choice now. Unless if Evil Empire is making more $$ out of paid dlc than MT is.
It just smells like some knee jerk situation.
Windblown looks pretty generic/bad as well.
The devs working on Dead Cells are a different studio (Evil Empire) than Twin Motion who are working on a new game. Twin Motion killed Dead Cells early when Evil Empire was going to give us more.
DLC's come after the base game is released. The Game was released many moons ago, and is already finished.
Read the article,. They don't want to ruin what is currently here, and after 148 hours, I still have not done everything. I still have another 148 guaranteed hours, to still unlock more and more as I keep playing...
You're crying for your own reasons, when in reality, the game is complete. The package is magnificent, and it's time to close up on new development for this as it may hinder what is currently here rather than keep it as fresh as it is,.
The problem here is that there is doubt that the devs themselve consider the game to be finished. While the official announcement says they don't feel like adding more stuff, an older official statement from last summer told us that there were still plans for the game until 2025.
An ex-veteran Motion Twin Dev also think the actual reason the game is finished is that Motion Twin tell EE to stop so they have space for Windblown, which feels like the opposite of saying a game is finished from the devs' perspective, take this information how you want.
I agree that the game has now way way more content that what it was in 1.0 and that it's a marvelous game now, but apparently the dev wanted to do even more.
MTs official reasoning for ending support is just PR talk. The original creator/co creator of dead cells deepnight basically confirmed this in a discord message, and then explained the situation more in a blog post on his website.
https://deepnight.net/blog/regarding-dead-cells-termination/
Yes the game has tons of content and has received more support than most games, but it wasn't supposed to end yet.
I actually don't mind it ending here. It's just the way it happened sucks.
Sad times. Maybe they'll let EE do something a bit bigger for update 35.
