Do I need the DLCs to enjoy dead cells?

No, they aren't necessary to enjoy the game. But if you do enjoy the game, the DLCs add more for you to enjoy.

The only DLC that I would consider essential is Rise of the Giant, which is a free expansion that should be automatically installed alongside the game.

As for the paid trilogy (Bad Seed, Fatal Falls, The Queen and the Sea), they are all a step up in difficulty as compared to the vanilla game. So I wouldn't suggest tackling them until you have a bit of experience with the game anyway.

Nope. The DLC are kinda like, an additional content for you to enjoy in the Base Game. So if you enjoying the base game already, the DLC are there to add even more enjoyment to the game

not really up to you to decide or judge. if your funds are limited, $5 can make the difference. so yeah, asking before saving up on something you might not need is the smart thing to do, right!? you might have missed it, but we had a pandemic that affected a lot of people financially. so keep that in mind, please.

As for the biomes, taking a non-DLC route is usually preferable, mostly because of how much easier it usually is - especially in the case of biomes leading up to boss fights, because I'd say that generally, the DLC bosses are far more difficult than their base game equivalents. The Dilapidated Arboretum isn't that bad, though, the Fractured Shrines might be worth going to for the guaranteed legendary, and at really low difficulties, the Queen of the Sea bosses are a serviceable alternative to fighting the Hand of the King

As for the equipment, the Scythe Claws are pretty good, but otherwise I don't really remember any particularly desirable DLC weapons and skills. Mushroom Boi is extremely terrible in my opinion, but a friend of mine swears by it

No. The game is pretty varied to begin with. But if you enjoy it, they might be worth it - some more than others. Bad Seed > Rise of the Giant > Fatal Falls > Queen and the Sea is how I would rank them. Rise of the Giant is free :)
