Don't worry, you're not the only one needing to 'git gud,' because I'm over here dying if I don't open cursed treasure, and dying if I do.
Also, one piece of dropped-by-enemy and one piece of wall-rune food per non-boss biome is GUARANTED, the thing is they might be in places you skip, and if you skip 90% of a biome just running from entrance to entrance then no surprise you can't find a piece of food for entire runs.
I don't want to dig the patchnotes that mention the addition of guaranteed food, do it yourself if you need proof, I remember tho that is was after the game left early access, so 1.1 the least.
And you still have flask recharges on lower bcs, if not, there are shops in the biomes itself.
It might serve you well to consider the flasks as limited, since the later difficulties DO limit their use heavily.
You'll definitely want ram rune for all those floor runes (items and damage/stun). Spider's great, too, so keep at it!
I don't really get it. This are only 3-4 runs to get them, not to mention you block most of the game, levels etc.
I am still new to the game, and nothing really hints how to get some of the more complicated runes, eventually I had to search them up at the end to know where and how to get each of them, before that I had no clue about their numbers or locations, which is normal for someone who just started the game
That, along with the general pattern of the game (go one route, then the other), is all the hint you really need to find anything.
Or, well, the guides here, or the wiki.
