i always thought , if only there was a way to continue from a checkpoint instead of starting all over.
my problem was i get to the end boss and then die too quickly on him, and the game doesn't even let you practice, because then you have to start all over again and go through everything just to get another shot at him and because I didn't get to "practice" on him, i just die again.
so, now is see the assist mode and i imagine i would earn the derision of the elitists out there that just breeze through 5 cells. . .
mainly the option i would use most is the "extra lives" that let you restart from the checkpoint.
I get the idea that this is "supposed" to be a roguelike with permadeth, but i feel like that punishment of losing hours of progress to an insanely difficult enemy that you aren't even allowed to practice on it becaue it kills you so fast and then it takes hours to get back to him. . .
TLDR : I think assist mode is a positive change. if elitists don't like it, they don't have to use it.
You're the only one I've heard complain of these issues. What trap hitboxes are inconsistent? Just don't get hit by any of them? And my rolls/parries are always perfectly instant & responsive. Problem with your controller/input device or system, maybe?
To those who are rejoicing about the update, I would challenge you to try the practice/training mode (or hell, even save scumming) before accessibility mode. But if that's really your thing then go for it, no shame in having fun your way ofc. But a huge part of getting good at this game is learning enemies' and bosses' attacks and how to counter them. Save to another save slot before a biome/boss you know you struggle with. Copy back to currently active save slot if you die to get some practice in. Of course it goes without saying that this should only be done to practice and you shouldn't pat yourself on the back until you've beaten it all the way through without dying.
You do NOT deserve the same achievements as others who have beaten the game without assistance, at least not all of them. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to gatekeep here. It's your game, you are not hurting anybody, play it however you have the most fun. Cheat, use mods, use console commands, use assist mode, do it however you want. Have fun.
But I think the devs made a terrible mistake in allowing players to be able to obtain every single achievement with assist mode on. You might not care about them, but a lot of players do. I do.
I don't care if you get the "You reached the catacombs" achievement with assist mode on, or the "you beat the final boss" achievement. But if I beat it with the original difficulty and without using assist mode, I think it is fair that I get the recognition for that. Or achievements like the ones you get for defeating bosses without taking damage.
I've had this argument many times already and it all ends up with people strawmaning me into claiming that I'm gatekeeping, which is completely false, but whatever. Preemptive ♥♥♥♥ off too for all those who will.
Sorry, I'm not going to.
but then of course, the folks who actually "need" the features because they have some disabilities would never be able to 100% all the steam achievments, but of course, the cheevs are meaningless anyway so nobody needs to be entitled to 100% of the cheevs to be able to see the entire game.
i knew i was never gonna 100% like, crypt of the necrodancer because i find it impossible to go through like 8 dungeon levels and defeat 6 bosses without getting hit or missing a beat. . .in double time. . .but then i heard they put accessibility features in that where you could play those final 2 characters in "bard mode" and still get the cheevs and i have no desire to go back and earn them because they would be meaningless and everyone who see them would always be wondering if i got them "legit" so i don't even bother.
i'll use steam cheevs to get me to try things i wouldn't normally try. the steam cheevs add a bit of artificial filler to extend the gameplay and keep me playing for longer but some cheevs are just too much work. some cheevs are just way too unreasonable.
i just played terraria for 3 weeks and earned the 200 angler quests cheev that only 2.5% of all the players who play terraria have that and i feel good that i did it but nobody cares that i did it.
i'm playing witcher 3 now and i'm gonna go for the "collect all gwent cards" cheevs, but i dunno if it's worth it , especially since you lose your cards on a NG+ and it seems really complicated to get them all as there are some that can be missed and most people you beat give you a random card and might just give a duplicate instead of one you need and if you get too many duplicates and run out of npcs to play against , you could end up unable to get them all and i dunno if i'm gonna get it and i'm gonna try but if i fail, i'm not gonna try again.
I would rather just call you a fool instead of a gatekeeper. Steam Achievement Manager and cheat engines exist; your little check boxes and profile icons mean nothing. It's time to grow up. YOU know what you achieved (and those who trust you), and that should be enough.
You may not care about achievements, but a lot of people do. Don't force your views on others. Achievements are important to a large part of the gaming community. Otherwise, websites like www.trueachievements.com wouldn't exist. There's nothing wrong about that, nothing to "grow up" about it.
And for crying out loud, stop pulling the Steam Achievement Manager card. That tool was designed to lock achievements back for people who wanted to unlock them again and to unlock bugged or discontinued achievements. The fact that some players have the nerve of using the tool to cheat achievements and then pat themselves in the back doesn't make achivements any less meaningful.
Imagine we're talking about the PlayStation trophies for Dead Cells instead of Steam achievements. Your argument wouldn't be valid.
the only person who knows is you.
the only time i ever cheated a cheev in was with dungeons of dredmor, because the cheev was bugged and the game doesn't award the cheev even though i did the thing it wanted me to do.
you yourself might care about your own cheevs. i still go for them, but i'm 99% sure that nobody in this community cares that i got 100% cheevs on dungeons of dredmor
