Tranquility, Point Blank and Support all buff your DoT effects.
*) However, DoT effects are currently divided into "direct" and "AoE" effects. And you should take this in this consideration when choosing these mutations.
E.g. the Throwing Knife applies direct DoT when it hits the target, whereas the Alchemic Carbine and Firebrands apply DoT in an area when they hit the target in addition to their projectile's own DoT.
So, how does this affect DoT when using those 3 mutations?
- "direct" DoT items: all ticks from the DoT displayed benefit from the mutations. E.g. if you have Tranquility with a bonus of 25% and your Throwing Knife does 12 base damage, then with tranquility every DoT bleed tick will show 15
- "AoE" DoT items: only the "direct" ticks benefit from mutations, the AoE ticks applied do not. Result: you see all the ticks on the screen, but only certain ticks will be buffed.
E.g. you have Tranquility with a bonus of 25%. You hit the target with Alchemic Carbine which does 12 damage per tick. When the mutation is active, then only a part of these ticks will be 15 (projectile's DoT), whereas most of them will remain 12 (AoE DoT). So the poison DoT ticks that you see flying off the target will look something like this:
12 12 12 12 15 12 12 12 12 12 12 12 15 12 12 12 12 12 12 15 12 12 12 12 ...
For the same reason, a 4x Throwing Knife will get the full benefit from the 4x damage, whereas a 4x Firebrands will only partially benefit from the extra damage because it applies DoT in an area in addition to its direct direct DoT damage (and projectile damage).
That's really informative -- thanks :)
