Which best weapons and skills are important to upgrade with cells ?

Hi,
I bought the game yesterday and I unlocked an useless bow with cells so I restarted the game already and I would like to unlock only the best weapons/skills (so I will not have a chance to loot these useless and bad weapons/skills during my runs).

I of course unlock the potions and other useful upgrades.
Can you please say me which weapons/skills are really good at this moment please ?

For now I just unlocked with cells the impaler

I reset my save to NOT buy: blood sword, sandals, lightning, nutcracker, oiled blade, and the heavy crossbow. Especially sandals. Yeah, they can be fun for a bit, but I hate them all the same. Any run that starts with them is the pits.

I always press restart when I start a new run and I see sandals as a first weapon. They're such a waste.

I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell they were thinking making sandals, they have got to be the single most useless weapon I've ever seen. Like I can understand making them if when you kick an enemy he knocks down every enemy behind him too, but the way they are right now they're the worst weapon bar none.

I enjoy Oiled Sword a lot, it's quick hit stun is useful against lots of enemies. Also it has synergies with fire builds.
I only grab a heavy crossbow with good affixes or when I don't have a better weapon in the Graveyard. This weapon is really good against big guys.

Ice Crossbow is better than the Heavy Crossbow tbh.

The War Spear is a good weapon for killing mobs and Elites, plus the Watcher's Tentacles. The Assassin's Blade can be pretty damn good with something to immobilize the enemy. The Electric Whip is just too convenient with it's omni-directional aim. Assault Shield is good for speed runs, and the Force Field, Spiked, and Counter Shields are good for tanking damage.

The Infinite Bow can carry you through the game if you are patient, always a good fall back. The Infantry Bow and, with the 4th Update, the Repeater Crossbow, can deal some real nasty damage now and are viable against bosses.

Pyrotechnics is about the only item that deserves special mention from the new Brutal Update, tied with Frost Blast for best spell and waay better than the rest.

Useless items from each category: Blood Sword, Spartan Sandals (which are technically lumped in with shields for most), Hokuto's Bow, Valmont's Whip, Ice Shock (a straight up inferior Frost Blast), and the Oil Grenade (which isn't THAT bad when you have Fire Gear).

I haven't tried everything yet, but those are the ones I disliked enough to reset my save.

I highly recommend playing the dailies. It gives you a chance to try before you buy.

Nice to know I'm not the only squirrel that ain't fond of the sandals. It's a funny gag, but PITA to try and use.

Next thing you know, someone will discover The Watcher or Assassin is ultra-weak against them like Air Man vs. Leaf Shield in Mega Man II.

If im honest, you're sorta playing the game wrong if you're just cherry picking and resetting saves if you don't like a certain weapon. The idea is that, if a weapon such as the Valmont's came with a brutality and enemies-burn-on-death affix from the Fog Fjord, it is going to be better than the underlevelled Shovel you've been carrying since the Promenade, even though you've put a load of Brutality scrolls into it. You're meant to have fun and enjoy the variety that all the different weapons and skills and spells give to the game, as opposed to just doing the same runs with the same weapons every time. I'd get bored with using just one or two set ups all the time...

And also, the sandals, the Valmont's and the Blood sword are not crap. i use the sandals with a Shove Shield, Denial Wave and Hook so i can CC and throw enemies around, the valmont's works with a Survival Build and the Blood Sword, with a bleed propagation affix and Blood shield can ruin any load of enemies in seconds. You seem to forget that in places such as the Fjord and the Sewers, there is a lot of places you can kick enemies into for massive fall damage, and massive fall damage is a lovely thing to witness.

You need to learn to use different weapons, even if you don't like them. Part of the challenge is using what's given to you. That said, Sandals, Valmont's, and Hammer are complete trash in my opinion and I never pick them up regardless of what else I have.

As far as best weapons, I like Balanced Blade, Wrenching Whip, Impaler, Throwing Knife, and Rapier.

For actives, Tonic, Fire Grenade, and Magnetic Grenade are great.

I reset and played through the latest update without purchasing any blueprints

Most of the weapons I really like are in the starter pack. . .
There are some specialized weapons I really like, but if I can't turn them off they kill other runs

I tried some weapons with they daily challenges. I like many weapons but there are not weapons I love yet.
I have a save 1 where I play normally (to unlock everything). So this save is in pause.

Now I play with a save2 where I play survival build (tactic secondary). So I unlock some survival and tactics items and no brutality items).

And I will maybe add some brutality items if I want to make brutality builds later (if it becomes beter than now) :). Or maybe do a save3 for brutality builds ? :p

Maybe I play the game wrong. Or maybe I have more fun to optimise.

Anyway I learned many things by your comments (that's why I made a save2 with survival builds hehe).
I like to see many players like different weapons. I hoped to read broadsword because I would like a survival weapon haha.

that is still boring as all hell. One thing that always makes me very happy is when i open a Cursed Chest on a Survival Build and I get a Shovel, or a Balanced Blade, or even a good bow. Colourless Items like these are so much fun to use, because you don't have to sacrifice Scrolls into Brutality to power them if you've already got ten or so in Survival. Cherry picking the weapons and deliberately ignoring certain ones like these makes it not as fun and dumbs down the variety of the game, because i bet you don't have the Shovel and haven't experienced it's majesty

For me cluster bomvb and death orb are super OP for tactics and that bow that shoots 2 arrows at once, for weapons balanced blade is so strong it stuns everything.

I tried shovel and I enjoyed it (at daly challenge-:). I open the cursed chests now because of your comment (I didn't know we could have colorless items ^^.
