Colorblind
So I've read that you should aim to get items of the same color to maximize damage output. Can you tell if two items are of the same color besides their color? I'm colorblind and have troubles telling red and green apart.

Kinda yes. But it's something that you learn, it's not that you immediately see the color of every item.

Each item has its own colors. For example Blood Sword will always be red, Sadist Stiletto is red and purple and broadsword is green. It will be like that in any run. So if you learn, for example, which items scale with brutality those items will always scale with brutality. But as a way to know that just from seeing them... I don't think there is a way; I may be mistaken though.

I mean, fast melee weapons and fire, bleeding weapons/skills usually scale with brutality, ranged weapons, electric and poison weapons/skills usually scale with tactics, and slow weapons, ice weapons/items, shields and things which reduce damage or stun enemies usually scale with survival. But it's not a perfect rule.

You can see this for all the items: https://deadcells.fandom.com/wiki/Gear

Seconding what leviathan said, it might take some time but your best bet for the current versions would be to memorize what items scale with what stat since that doesnt change between runs except when the devs feel like messing with the colors of items with the help of the wiki, since Im not sure if theres any colorblind accessibility features, and taking a quick look at the ingame weapon selection UI, there isn't really any indication of the color. One thing tho is the first couple biomes may be an issue, but from around the 3rd area onwards, youd be able to tell just by the damage output of a weapon that it's your main color or not since weapon stats increase at an exponential rate with their corresponding stat, so while an off-main color weapon will have 1500 dps, your main weapon will be at like 20k (just throwing out random numbers, you get the point)

You could also try previous versions of the game which some, including myself, would argue are better than the more recent versions. Up until 1.9, once you upgrade the forge, weapons have bonus scrolls affixed to them, which show the symbols of the stats right in the weapon UI. Heres a screenshot so you can see what Im talking about
