Is Forgotten Sepulchur worthwhile?
Every run I am running into a brick wall on this level because I lose track of the lights and get disoriented and suddenly my life is draining so fast I can't even stop to heal. Should I just skip it and move on via the Clock Tower? I am getting really annoyed at this new mechanic and I've read this is the only level that features it.

You should do it at least once, because it has a rune unlock.

Other than that, it has some good item unlocks. But if you are just trying to get to the end of the game going through the clock tower is easier and generally safer. You can buy the item at the start of the level to help out a bit with light-it creates a one use permanent light source you drop on the floor.

I keep buying the light but it takes 2 full minutes to cooldown so it's only so useful.

The lights are just too far from each other. Like even if I go slow I often can't see the next one before I leave the last one. I find it very irritating.

Is the level long? Like I have no idea how close I'm getting to the end. I'm usually dead within 60-90 seconds.

Oh my god some of the light sources burn out and disappear? That has to explain why I've been getting so disoriented. I've been trying to backtrack to the last light and it gone and it makes me think I've gotten lost. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I'd say yes. I think once you get the gist of it it's even easier to get the 60 door kill in sepulcher than in clock tower, for the sole reason that traps and enemies are not together in sepulcher. It's normal in clock tower to get rooms with some enemies, and traps around them. In sepulcher that doesn't happen. Besides that, all enemies in sepulcher are easier to deal with than Cannibals of clock tower. Mummies will definitely kill a few of your first sepulcher runs, though. Cannibals... don't kill runs often, but they are trolly enough to kill your streaks often.

When I first got there I went for the explorer rune and never went back because it felt terrible... until I got to 4BC and saw you can get to the Giant from there. Eventually I got used to the darkness and it became my favorite biome among it, Cavern and Clock Tower.

I wouldn't call this advice or anything since it's more how I deal with it than how anyone would.

For the sepulcher you need to keep track of darkness.

- Always keep a path between you and some light. If you're at a light need to explore a new path just keep track of where you're coming from and if you don't find anything and starts getting dark just go back to your light and look for a better path. You can also clear some enemies (dark trackers, kamikazes) that way. You aggro them, go back to your light and fight them there. If you're at 4-5 BC be sure not to bring the entire mob with them though. At that point I think I kill some of them until I think I need light and then I go back. But for a basic 0-3 BC sepulcher you can take it easy, bringing the trackers and kamikazes to the light so you can fight the other enemies with less issues.

- If you're on some dark room and find more than one temporal (blue) light source), only activate one, so that if you need to go there again you won't be so rushed. I think the distance between permanent (gold) light sources is short enough so that you can always get from one to the next without taking damage but it's better not to waste other light sources.

- Don't get caught up in fights unless you have light. If it gets dark, retreat to the light.

- Yeah, don't stop to heal. If you start taking damage check the map, find the closest light source, and go there fast. There are always light sources at teleporters or teleporting statues.

- Elites spawn light sources.

- Cursed chest also spawns light sources.

- You won't die by taking darkness damage while cursed.

I think that's it.

Oh. It's not.

- In custom mode there is an option to enable this mechanic IN EVERY SINGLE LEVEL :bienfu: . Isn't that lovely? :jennyhappy:

Also I never buy the light. Too expensive for me and as you say, it isn't even that good.

This was one of my first forgotten sepulcher successful attempts, a long time ago. Combatwise it's really bad, also I just noticed I used to do rainbow builds back then lol. But the general strategy for going through the level hasn't changed a lot since then. Now I'm better at dead cells platforming, I know a lot better how long can I stay in the dark without taking damage so I can afford to be a little more careless, and there's more variety of enemies,. I think that's mostly it. Oh. I can read the map and analyze the environment better.

Know what? I think I'll do a better sepulcher and show it because that one is kinda bad lol. Still, it can be done without much skill.

But isn't the "go back to the light you were last at" strategy complicated by the fact that some lights are temporary? Like I definitely had situations where I tried that and suddenly there was no light and I just frantically ran around like a headless chicken until I died.

Thanks for the tips in general, though. And the video does make it look doable.

The rune unlock, plus there's technically 2 exclusive blueprints tied to the area (1 from the fat slamming zombie, and there's a moonflower key here that's needed for a blueprint in high peak castle. Plus I guess the blueprints from Cleavers, if you don't have The Bad Seed DLC). But aside from that it's the absolute worst level 5 area

I'll also add to this, every enemy you kill while not near light clears away the darkness by 11%, or aprox 1 extra second each

How exactly do you "track" the darkness? Like is there a meter or some proxy?

Either count in your head/use the in game timer (aprox 12 seconds before you start taking damage) and/or pay attention to the light "bubble" around your character shrinking

Just got through it for the first time. Thanks for the help, guys!

Well, I mean permanent lights. Usually the level structure consists in hallways with permanent lights and rooms with temporary lights (I think it can vary somewhat, though).

Here is a better forgotten sepulcher. It still wasn't the best because I hadn't played in A LONG time until yesterday but I think I didn't take any darkness damage (I was close, though). Also I decided to do it with a cooking themed build, which I'm terrible at lol.

Also 3BC because I'm rusty and I'm not getting to tier 3 biomes on 5BC right now (Once I play for a while I'll start to get better again).

try to be fast. where you use the statues and teleporters, there will always be light. charge up there, then explore and get back in time. the lamp at the beginning isn´t worth it! even less, if you have good items. 2nd part of sepulchre is more annoying than the beginning.
i normally avoid it and i think it is the least played level on my end.
oh and the obvious...use your map. ;)

Another good sepulcher. This one is 5BC but on a seed with a good start (4 challenge rifts, cursed promenade, double Ossuary curse, and a nice 1% heal stiletto).
