So because they hit you hard you got stunned
Always when you're fighting something, ALWAYS forcing you to turn around, and hit them or you'll lose 50% hp AND get hit by the enemy because you got stunned. God help you if your weapon is slow or has a terrible hitbox for picking off overhead flying enemies, you'll NEVER get them before they detonate, and get hit trying to get away or as your weapon misses.
Basically if you don't have an emergency grenade ready, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The damage? I can deal with that, despite the fact they're dead and you most likely cannot recuperate even half the damage taken with your attacks on the nearby other enemies. But THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STUN! It prevents the use of the rally mechanic (hit enemies to regain recently-lost/orange health) AND sets you up for a giant hit to the face from whatever you where fighting and thus couldn't fight AND dodge/kill the bat.
God i hate those. So many hours playing this game, the Assassin boss is a piece of cake. But those bats NEVER fail to screw me over by showing up when i'm occupied with something else. And any succesful explosion also GUARANTEES the need for a potion. Thanks, game. No other enemy has this trait. NOT EVEN BOSSES. Thanks for that. Well, i should stop now, i hate these things enough to write 4 blocks of text of pure (COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED) ranting, despite my extensive experience. Let that be a sign things could be better then they are now. That it can be improved.
The stun is complete BS.
If you look at the overall design that is "the exploding bat", having it deal high amounts of damage whilst also opening the player up for even more damage seems excessive to me.
Either have them deal low damage + stun, or high damage without a stun.
And if it's a threshold thing, remove it.
It's terrible design to kick a player that's already on the ground.
It'll just snowball until they die, which simply isn't fair.
Sometimes, you just can't avoid taking a hit or two due to the game's random nature - especially when those bats are involved, since they can freely move through walls like the cheaters they are.
About 99% of the encounters you ALWAYS notice them first, hanging from the ceiling. The only way they can surprise you if you maybe jump down to an unkown area where some bats happen to be. Still, you can even parry the damage, or just simply ROLL AWAY when they are blinking for a MILLION YEARS before exploding. Or just hit them, shoot them.
They also have a single HP, so you can kill them with ANY kind of attack, easily they has to be the most harmless enemies in the game.
How can a thread be born to nerf an enemy with 1 HP??
I say reduce the blinking time and let them explode upon impact, so there's at least some timing involved in killing them, because now all they do, is just self-willingly get near for you and WAIT for you to graciously put them out of existence.
Also about 80% of the time, they are placed on ledges you can stomp-kill them, so it's like they don't even get a chance, they are basically the only enemy without a purpose.
I agree. Enemies like this are just tradition. Metroid, Castlevania, hell even the Contra series and countless others have low HP, subversive enemies capable of ending you in an instant. These things are the Tonberry of Dead Cells. I'm fine with them, as they keep you on edge.
Most of the time they aren't a problem. But there's situations like I said, multiple bats that chain-stun you.
In my case I was fighting a spider-bot and the bats came right before I could turn around to destroy them.
It doesn't happen often but there's situations where if one of them hits you, you can't dodge roll and get chain-stunned.
