You can upgrade it's quality for gold, once, at forge assitant. And you can reroll affixes, which makes even low quality weapon good.
People, complaining about dud weapons, tend to forget that affixes can make or break one. And now good base/bad affixes can be rerolled, cheaper and more reliable than shop rerolls.
You can beat the entire game on the hardest difficulty with a + ranked weapon right now. Have you tried to fight foes in the prison cells without an S rank BEFORE this patch? It took 12+ hits to kill a zombie. You can pick up a vanilla balanced blade and kill something in a single combo now. All monster HP was reduced.
You are being hit by a reverse placebo effect. You are looking at the Weapon Rank on the tin and judging it to be useless without considering the balancing that took place to the entire game system.
It's extremely similar to how Fortnite devs recently swapped the rarities of two shotguns around so the more powerful shotgun was suddenly a "grey" item or "common" rarity, and made the less powerful shotgun colored a better color. No balance changes were made at all, no drop rate changes were made either. ALL they did was swap the colors. Suddenly, players stopped using the meta shotgun because it had a weaker item color and it gave them a false sense of being nerfed.
People are really easily manipulated like this. You have to look at the big picture. New legendary items massively powering the player's damage values and allowing much more colorless build options, affix rerolling making almost ANY weapon into a elemental damage boosted version (100% to burning is now free). The player is more powerful than ever, and enemies are far weaker. But the ONLY thing we are going to be hearing about for the next while is "I can't win any more because I can't find my favorite weapon in S-rank please fix"
Nothing changed. Power was added in NEW ways. Try playing with your favorite items in + or ++ rank and just make due with them. Maybe upgrade or reroll then at the Minor Forge. This is how the game is intended to work now.
They could have easily manipulated the players by introducing a new naming system for item ranks instead of +'s and S's. That way players would have had no direct comparison to the old system and wouldn't have thought they were getting weakened.
It's going to be hard to stomach the forums for the next little while as you see a great patch for the health of the game get bashed by people who don't have the full changelist in their mind before they post.
so many angry casuals on the threads today..... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying tbh. i think i migh be triggered.

You, sir, just made my day.
Specially the forum part. It's already a complaining fest, where everything changed is being criticized heavily WITHOUT considering all the changes.
This patch is probable one of the most "perfect" that MTwin already done. So much quality of life changes that really improved the game.
Trying new things is all well and good. But even the most seasoned roguelike players still have an old standby they love to go for. It has a nice feel to it and you get to feel powerful when you have the fortune to find a nice quality version of your favorite weapon. Seeing your favorite weapon appear as a dud just feels bad mostly.
no it doesn't; the weapon is still valid. i've carried a + lightening bolt to the end of the game. i can win with it on 4 cells and keep my YOLO. consistently. you. are. just. bad. and expect that you can permanently have overpowered gear. that is not the point of a roguelike. the point of a roguelike is general mechanical and tactical skill within the challenge space; where you must make whatever you got handed work. i understand in a deck builder or RTS this doesn't work, but in a real time setting without objectively perfect decisions it works wonderfully.
additionally a roguelike is about trying new things; about constructing a new and interesting build. or for people like myself who have completed all of the main content; it is about constructing meme joke builds and having a fun time.
placing victory or specific build construction as a metric, in each run, for one's enjoyment is not how a roguelike works. so again, if this isn't for you that isn't bad; it doesn't mean you're "wrong" but it does mean you're playing the wrong game.

it's content that will be reachable with a new rune in the next update iirc.
Preach it, seriously. These threads are getting old, and they offer nothing of substance, just complaining. The irony is the game is much easier now, with so many more valid options. It's a good change compared to the tunnel like gameplay you needed to adhere to in order to succeed.
thank you, and i totally agree :D
I chose whatever weapons I enjoyed playing with. Some synergized with my build when I picked them up, others I rerolled affixes. I didn't even take the old standby emergency triage.
I'd highly recommend familiarizing oneself with as many weapons as possible. You never know what you're going to get - make the most of it instead of ragequitting and complaining here.
