Should I try to unlock every blueprint?
Title. Mostly because my philosophy is this: less items would kind of mean a more controllable choice of items, but then again that means most of my cells are spent on small bits of perma upgrades here and there, so I wonder if I should do anything about that.

If you have a lot of time unlock everything on one save (so you know what's good) and unlock specific ones on another save. Will work pretty good for you given that there will be no further changes to items scaling.

About a week ago, I erased my second save which featured only a selected blueprints.
I just didn't play it since the forge rework. It is just vastly more enjoyable and a much more wholesome experience to have everything unlocked and sometimes you can get some very enjoyable combos that while includes an item you don't usually prefer, it works surprisingly well. And I also have an appreciation for a lot of items I didn't like before. Each run get's more different than the last and that is perhaps the most important thing in the long run. And believe me when I say, that is important as you probably have a lot of runs ahead if you want to finish 4 cell. Having all of the blueprints unlocked kept me from getting bored of the game. The RNG of a rouge-lite has to be one of the most enjoyable aspect of games like this and good variety is key. So unlock everything! Trust me, it will be a lot more fun that way. Just use the items as they work best. Kick mobs to the walls with the sandal, manouver well with the boomerang, or just change it for something else.. Having 5 okay runs with you favourite gear is okay I guess, but 2 strange runs, 2 good ones and 1 exceptionally awesome actually makes you come back for more. When you die, just loose the idea of purshuing the same build again, because you might end up with something totally different but just as entertaining.

Well said :)
Well it's not like it would cost you money or huge amount of time to Force Rng into yours...

First you have to know that the game try to scale on what you start with, so if you take an Shield and a Ranged weapon he will offer you this more often during your run (not like crazy often but like 70-30 ?)
It is less visible now we have selective category shop, but back then the shop was pure randomness , you would see that starting with a ranged weapon would impact what the RNG will offer you in these shop.

It also work for all random item you would drop at chest and such.

Of course it is still somewhat less easy to get what you want by having a large pool of objects but honestly if you manage to play with some "likewise" weapon ( like the one that work with combo, the one that work with distance melee... ) you will be good.

But if you really can't manage some weapon , you can always reset your run straight out at the begening , like if the starter free weapon are something you hate, and the shop in the starter level doesn't give you anything you like, you can always reset your run.
If you upgraded your Coin Purse to the max, you will have no problem at all with money if you just beat all the mobs in the level

Then as someone else said, there is some combo that you might found out that work pretty well, depending of your playstyle. So just try it up.

That all beeing said, it's of course just a shared opinion to say that you really can still be efficiant with all weapon unlocked , I'm not a pro player but I still manage to always get gear I feel ok with.

But of course, if you reeeaaaally want a more efficiant save, you can do a new one and just farm the cells.
Honestly taking all the power upgrad (speaking about the wall jump and all) would be done in 2-3 run if you know where they are, and farmin the upgrade wouldn't take much of time if you fully clear the levels, do the Challenge room and run for the first timed gate.

Having all the blueprints isn't necessary, but it doesn't hurt. That said, some people just don't like certain weapons and if they know what those weapons are, they probably shouldn't unlock them. Spend a lot of time in the time attacks as I believe they still have the chance of letting you try out things you haven't unlocked.

That or like someone said, one save is unlock everything and the other save is one where you are careful and don't unlock certain weapons that you just never do well with.

Less items is better. Sadly there are way too many items that are absolutly useless on higher cell difficulties. Sure more variety but what's the point of that if they are gonna make your run more miserable than it already is and you'd just want to get a better weapon instead of those.

Supposedly you can't get a run where they never give you an item you can use, but I have had some runs where I am in the biome before clock room with weapons at two and items at three. Sometimes they just keep giving lousy items.

I would hope that the fifth time I recycle a greed shield during a run would be evidence that I don't like it and don't want it.
