What path do you take? having trouble advancing.
Not sure if it matters overall but is there a better or more common path people have found to take? I almost never go to the poison sewer but im finding that by time i reach the fjord after first boss I just die.

Newer players are better off going to the promanade, then to the ramparts and so on. More advanced players will go to the toxic sewers, old sewers or prison depths. People who feel confident with their skills/weapons will go to the ossuary/prison depths and then rampart (Hardest, but most fun path imo.)

It took me a while to figure some things out but initially I went through Toxic Sewers and then Old Sewers. This route is easier for me than the Pandemonium (was it called this way?) of the Damned and Ramparts combined. Ramparts is just so horrible with those eye-pecking birds (which are OP by the way!) and telerporting Skeleton Archers.

After the first boss it's essentially a spike in difficulty in my opinion. My build usually sucks by then because I die too in the Fjords. If I can cheese my way through with ranged skills and attacks, I'm good. The Cannon-wielding Pirates are nightmare. If I manage to get past that it's a huge win for me.

Still figuring this amazing game out.

My biggest issue usually lies in the large skeleton warriors who teleport constantly to your side (if i have no way to cheese them without aggroing). Then in fjord its often just if i make a single mistake its over.

My personal routes:

Easy: Promenade -> Ramparts
Medium: Toxic Sewers -> Old Sewers
Hard: Ossuary -> Prison Depths

Things to look out for (from the top of my head, so probably incomplete):

Cells: Zombie leap & Grenadier bombs & Shield charge (these should never hit you)
Promenade: Phaser teleport & Scarecrow barriers (roll through, hit, roll through, hit)
Ramparts: Wizard projectiles & Flyer "moshpit" (bring bombs)
Sewers: Scorpion spawns & Exploding worms & Mushroom spikes (watch the ground)
Ossuary: Slasher teleport/combo & Scorpion spawns (pay attention)
Depths: Slasher teleport/combo & Invisible enemies (pay even more attention)
Fjord: Fatty boomerangs & Pirate cannons/combo & Phaser teleport (take it slow)
Graveyard: Fatty hooks/kicks & Invisible enemies & Flyers spawning from corpses (take it even slower)

Everywhere: Green suicide bats of certain death and frustration because you accidentally did something stupid and died to the explosion like an idiot and now you hate yourself because you deserve it (accept that life just isn't fair).

Ossuary path seems the most rewarding imo. Shields felt underwhelming until I started going that path, can't seem to do that place without one now.

i admit shields seem pretty average overall, it feels like being up close is just to dangerous so ive been often using skill combos and hiding

I did the "Easy" path here - http://steamcommunity.com/app/588650/discussions/0/2741975115070690660/

Promenade -> Ramparts. Usually I do the Ossuary and Depths, though, because it's far richer in cells and loot.

Just had my best run to Date, went Ossuary, Depths and made it as far as the graveyard but died down below to a poor decision. Used the meat grinder with magnet bomb for almost all my damage.

Take the ossuary and get buffed items, then hit up prison depths to finish off any early builds you might have missed, since it's more buff items. Then profit. I tend to go for 5 str first, then whatever else, have the throwing dagger+electric whip wombo combo with dmg buff and a turret. just slide my thumb over x y real quick to attack cancel and basically get 2 auto aim range attacks all the time, if i need to dodge i just x y b and dodge the attack. If I run into tuff enemies i dmg buff, double jump in, toss a turret and start spamming xy xy xy a bunch and just time my dodge. with the dmg buff and the fast attacks you'll melt the entire room of a dozen enemies in just a few seconds. esp if you find throwing daggers with pierce and apply bleed to others upon death and electric whip with grenades and minions upon death.

My first route ended up being Promenade>Old Sewers which has proven easy for me, but sewers risks poison damage.

Promenade>Rampart is, as most of the above have stated, the easiest path without much risk aside from the birds. (sometimes the room leading to the exit requires a jumping roll to get through though)

Ossuary, once it becomes available, is the absolute best for getting cells and buffed items, but requires more thought and patience to get through.

When you get to the Fjord my only advice is take it very slow and have something to distance yourself from the cannon-toting enemies. They'll lock you into their slam attack and fire a cannonball right after.

Fan fact on the sewers. There's an amulet with "Ignore all poison damage" enhancement on it that rarely spawns in the shops in the first zone. I've had it a few times, excellent motivation to go hit up the sewers anyway (I usually go via Ossuary -> Depths).
