Dead Cells
Is the game really that amazing?
It's been topping the charts lately for a looong time, and was wondering what makes this game "so good". It's supposed to be kind of a roguelite + metroidvania and it's been taking people by storm, judging by the 94% positive reviews over 4000+ people. I don't know, I tried it on a friend's and I personally found it a bit repetitive with new enemies that didn't really have that many new patterns, there's some creative ones like the mushrooms with spikes, and just a few not-so-well designed, like the electric turrets. The combat does feel satisfying as a lot of people have pointed out.

So...does the game just get a lot better a while after the first boss in the bridge? Is it the "permanent" progression allowing you to explore new areas? Am I missing something? I've been watching it recently and have not yet formed a complete opinion on it.

Best game ever. :heart_me:

Buy it or you won't be cool

Eh.

Game's a gear check in 3 locations, and if you don't have the stats/gear to take it, your death is inevitable. The game still needs proper scaling and difficulty curve before it can be a real 10/10. Sits at a tolerable 6 imo - not bad, but more stress than fun.

Plus devs have a nasty case of the "Nerfing Single-Player Content-itus", so methods that -kinda- helped against the cheapness of the graveyard and low power fog fjord are now useless, making the game that much more difficult. This age of gamers are masochistic though, so the -slightest- 'fake difficulty' experience will be praised like a god in a religious sect.

I'd say buy it, give it the "1.5 hour trial", and refund it if you don't like it. Was a waste of my money, but when multiplayer garbage is my only real other option, I just play this to pretend like I have a shot at winning, lose inevitably to crap drops and infrequent frametraps/corner juggling, and just give it up.

(20XX is wayyyy better.)
20xx is a platformer. I hate platformers. I love this game. your comparing apples and oranges. both fruits, but waaay different.
I streamed my first play for 5 hours earlier and had an absolute blast. The game is actually fun to play in terms of it's foundations. It's not like Isaac where you need to stack loads of items before you start enjoying yourself. It's kinda like a 2D rogue-lite Dark Souls; Even if you don't have the best items you can still prevail if you're skilled enough. Definitely recommended.
This game was definitely worth the buy. Of course, since it's early access, you're gonna be really disappointed once you reach the current last area only because you're left craving more.

It definitely has a dark souls feel where you can cheaply get rocked by some BS that you didn't expect, but once you learn all the enemy patterns, you'll start feeling safe as you blow through them rarely taking damage. The best aspect of it imo is the classic metroidvania exploration. I've played plenty of other "metroidvania" tagged games, but almost none of them have nailed it as much as this game. Instead of loading up Castlevania SotN on an emulator, I'd happy just play another round of Dead Cells.
I'm a fan of execution heavy games that force you to get better than you were getting in, and because of that I have over 100 hours in this game. If you like games that are rewarding to get good at, its a good buy. Alternatively if you don't like mechanical/execution games you may find yourself in some situations that frustrate you since you can't just lolspam to victory.
Hey binding of isaac has tons of postive reviews and that game has tons of issues that are garbage. The fact that the womb teleport shot is still not fixed is absurd.
Dead Cells also has issues but it's a fun game. More than anything I really like the visuals of it. The level details are very well done and there is some fun skills and weapons to use.
It's not for everyone though. And I can see how it could get boring. Also the game is not complete yet either so there is that.

Dead Cells has platforming elements as well. The only real diffrence with dead cells and 20xx is that 20xx focuses more on dodging bullets and shooting guns while dead cells focuses more on melee weapons and rolling. The games are actually really similar in the core concept. You can use the level to avoid attacks and you need to jump over spikes and stuff. That is a platformer element. It's just that 20xx has more of it.
