Marksman's Bow - Very effective at clearing levels safely (great for 4 and 5BC). If you have the shots pass through multiple enemies modifier it can 1-shot large crowds. Works well on most bosses.
Rapier - Probably an unpopular opinion, but I really like the rapier, it's very easy to execute critical hits with it and it's just fun to use. The hitbox can be a little wonky, don't try to hit airborne enemies with it.
Broader Sword,
Broadest Sword.
I totally agree with the Rapier honestly, it has such a fun silly feeling to it.
Torch (Best melee weapon in the game change my mind)
Rapier
Sadist Stilleto
Alchemic Carbine is great and all, but I always feel guilty using it, because it's so good especially with Hokoto's Bow
Rapier is a great weapon, convenient critical hits and pretty good overall damage. Some bosses (like the giant) can really disadvantage this weapon, unfortunately. But hey you pair it with frontline shield and +300% damage after parry and you're clearing through things.
Though, on that note of the Assassin's Dagger, isnt the new introduced item Blowdart a ranged version of it?
- Shrapnel Axes (Brutality)
- Quick Bow (Tactics)
- Heavy Crossbow (Survival)
Shrapnel Axes is the best aspects of Tactics & Brutality: the ability to fight outside of enemy attack range, but with access to all the healing / infection immunity mutations + a higher health pool.
Quick Bow is the best all-round Tactics primary in my personal opinion. It has a high firerate, a reliable & effective critical condition, and it can get piercing affixes.
I'm sure most people will say Giantkiller for Survival, but when it comes to single-target damage potential, I honestly feel that the Heavy Crossbow wins. Each bolt fired is calculated individually, which means that "one" shot can hit a boss damage cap multiple times. If you've ever seen videos of people fighting lategame bosses with 25+ Survival, you'll know what it's like.
Favorite
1. Broadsword
2. Heavy Crossbow
3. Symmetrical Lance
4. Valmont's Whip
5. Hemorrhage
I'm primarily a fan of Survival (and wish there were a couple more Survival-only weapons), but I also like some of the ignored items - Electric Whip, Infantry Bow, Ice Crossbow, Cursed Sword. One that I really want to start using again is the Frantic Sword.
My favorite items change pretty frequently though; every few months or so.
Im a fan of Survival too. Im also upset that, I might be wrong as im only two Boss Cells in but, That everything Melee-Survival is the heavy swinging weapons. Like hell yeah they're awesome as one of your favorites is the Symmentrical Lance and Broadsword but man i struggle with those things. Still really awesome weapons though.
Explosive Crossbow or endless quivers bow
Crossbowamatic
Biters
My problem is I do not get the electric whip very often. The broadsword is fierce.
Hey. Can you elaborate as to why you like Valmont's Whip?
-Mushroom boi!
Yeah, he's very helpful. I admit he does mess with my parry more often than not, but very good at interrupting enemy attacks. Especially useful in the Toxic Sewers, because of all the walls around.
-The Giantkiller
Uhh.. It kills elites and bosses fast. I found my boss fights significantly easier after unlocking this.
-Repeater Crossbow
This weapon helped me breeze through 2 and 3 BSC. Before, I was struggling with health as I mainly go for Brutality builds (I happen to suck at effectively dodging attacks, until recently). After discovering this baby, I just pumped all stats into Survival, grabbed Wolf Trap and Necromancy and basically plowed through biomes. Got upgraded from 1 to 4 BSC real quick.
...too bad that it does horribly against The Giant.
Honorable mentions:
-Hayabusa Gauntlets
It hits fast and it hits hard(er). Get crits faster than Balanced Blade, and easier than Assassin's Dagger. This was my default melee weapon of choice, until I started venturing into other weapons.
-Frost Blast
One of my favorite weapons when I just started (and pumped stats for health instead of damage). Basically this + some heavy melee weapon (Broadsword, Nutcracker,Symmetrical Lance) + deployable traps.
-Spiked Shield
Still trying to parry effectively and this is my favorite shield, I guess. At least for now.
Also I should mention: Valmont's Whip used to be Brutality / Survival, if you didn't know. The speed & recovery was slightly increased, which is the reason for its scaling change.
Assassin's Dagger - Omae wa shindeiru
Rapier - Crits on every roll is super useful, plus the moveset is nice.
If you forced me to name a melee weapon - I was surprised how much I enjoyed Flawless (great crit and the first strike is an upswing that clears flying enemies very well).
Thanks for your elaboration. I'll give Valmont's Whip another chance. I didn't know about the Brutality / Survival history. I am a late comer to this masterpiece.
Now that's a very broad statement, could you be more specific?
Also my favourite weapons would probably have to be:
Blood Sword,
Torch,
Broad Sword
and as an honourable mention the Marksman's Bow for being the weapon which carried most of my run on my very first successful 5BC attempt, which still feels like a massive achievement to me.
I generally like weapons that act fast (broad sword is an exception, it just feels great to use) and allow me to quickly cancel the attack in case of incoming damage and I also like damage over time since it requires less time to "get in there" and allows me to focus a bit more on dodging. It also seems more useful on higher cell-difficulty than damage from pure hits.
