Good mushroom boi synergies?

I've tried using the mushroom boi on 3 different runs now and always ended up getting rid of it. It feels like it's doing more harm than good for me a lot of the time, e.g. pushing away enemies out of melee weapon range. At worst it pushes stuff like rampagers away who then proceed to hit you.

All the survival melee weapons are slow too which makes this happen a lot. Should I be using bows or somehow playing differently to make him work? I guess the suicide explody attack is pretty good (especially if you want to clear curse safely), but they really want to make you feel bad about using it.

He didn't seem to be doing all that much in the boss fights either, or maybe I was just too busy to notice it.

EDIT: Another little "helper" I feel that is more harmful than help are the friendly biters that spawn after kills. Nothing like hearing a bombardier firing and starting to dodge roll out of the way, only to find out he attacked the biters instead of you and you dodged right into the bombs.

Yeah, I agree, honestly. The mushroom boi often just complicates things - it's harder to parry enemies that are being pushed around, and hitting them can be just as hard. On the plus side, knocking enemies off cliffs can be really nice.

Using mushroom boi well would probably require a fair bit of CC. Ice items, traps/root, that kind of stuff. So I'd probably recommend focusing on those if you want to use the boi and still maintain some level of combat-effectiveness/

I just finished a run with mushroom boi, swarm grenade and ice bow (and a heavy hitting melee weapon for bosses). It seemed to work out fairly well, using ice bow to stop enemies while all the minions tear them down. It's not the fastest way to play the game, but it was amusing. I was surprised how much damage all the minions managed to do in the time keeper fight, even stunning her out of some of her attacks.

Mushroom Boi feels like the Vorpan. Its silly and can be entertaining to use
