Ranged is usually purple, sometimes green: tactics
I wouldn't have guessed shrapnel axes is melee seeing as how it theoretically throws out more projectiles than you can attack.
Best source is just to use the wiki.
i know that they are also separated into categories in the blueprints menu at the collector, but that only helps BEFORE you actually unlock and can use said item... i want to be able to see it whenever, even when dropped by an enemy, or when found randomly around the maps.
yeah, i get that for the most part its pretty obvious, but a few are not.
it would just be nice to have a single word in the item description ("melee," "ranged," "skill," etc)
given the number of mutations that care about specific damage types, more information is better then less.
I think he was referring to the upgrade you get allowing you to select which category a merchant displays for sale. There are still a few merchant types (weapons, skills, food), but with the upgrade it will let you select a subset.
So instead of random weapons/shields of any kind, you can pick to show only melee weapons, only ranged weapons, or only shields. For skills it is turrets, grenades, or the trap kind.
It still isn't on the fly as you were hoping for, but by limiting what the merchant shows to ranged for instance, you know all those weapons are in the ranged category. It doesn't really take memorizing all the weapons or anything either. As previously mentioned there is very little that makes you think twice as Gnodab's list shows. The electric whip (considered range while the other whips are not) is the one that throws most people off.
With thousands of weapons ingame why hasn't this simple QoL not been added yet?
Is there any mod that could fix this?
