I think they have total control using their own language and engine.
Motion Twin is using haxe for ages, why they need to switch to something else?
Also Nicolas Cannasse (founder of Haxe language and Motion-Twin ex-dev ) created Heaps framework. Why did they started to use it as engine I don't know. Maybe Motion-Twin has some sort of own engine on top of heaps. For example look at games made by Sébastien Bénard (one of Motion-Twin devs) . At least for 4 last games he used heaps (and each of them were created by 1 man in 2-3 days)
