Fallout Shelter Steam Overlay or absence there of.

I love fallout shelter and I played it "on the cheap"for a while. The game kept reminding me if I needed to go in game settings and activate {Steam Overlay) to make purchases. Well I tried this and the button was let's say frozen...wouldn't budge. I wanted to buy all the goodies, and 70 count cooler of Nuka Cola, 15 pets to start, and a 8 park of Mr.Handys. I managed to get 200 settlers but things took SO long to accomplish and then my Wife bought me an XBOX One S for Christmas and low and behold I could buy any thing I want. Only thing is I much prefer the game on PC....C'MON Steam or Bethesda! at least somebody not alergic to money.

I'm assuming you mean... you right-clicked game in steam library and selected 'properties' so you could change settings in there!? One option is to enable Steam Overlay... which should just be a check box and not sure why it would be greyed out. However, I do not have Steam Overlay (when in games menu and playing) due to having modded my installation of the game. Is it possible you had modded it in the past but, did NOT do a complete wipe (removal of the game files from PC) last time you uninstalled? If not, and you just did a quick 'Install' from steam, it would just re-use those old files. Perhaps try doing that... complete wipe (uninstall), restart PC, a clean install. Then open game properties in steam again and run the 'local files' file verification process to be sure the install is good. Double check all settings while in there.

Now, your users save data is actually kept within your users folder... down under the \Appdata\Local\Fallout Shelter\ folder. So you should NOT lose anything there during the uninstall / re-install process. But, you probably should make a backup of your vault save file(s) prior to doing all this... just for safety measures. If steam overlay still isn't working, maybe steam no longer offers store options / steam overlay anymore? I can't imagine it would be this cuz there's so much more available through the overlay--more than just store--so, not sure why they wouldn't. I just can't see if that's the reason cuz like I said, I have it modded and it don't work for me anyway.
