Steam deleted Vault
I had a power outage a few hours ago and just a few minutes ago tried to hop on Fallout Shelter to pass time, to only find the vault I've spent 100 hours on and 70$ to build up is gone... Missing from save files, and steam won't sync this with the cloud where my game was suppose to be... Anyone know how to restore my save or to get my money returned?

^you could try some recovery tools as PhotoRec and Recurva to get your save files back, assuming they were not overwritten.

as for you money, it's gone.

steam wouldn't let me resync the save so in my depression i uninstalled the game thinking once its reinstalled it'll resync... probably ruined my chances of recoverng huh meheezen?

This game is free, how did you spend 70 dollars?

It has a number of microtransactions GustavGlaven.

You never know untill you try.
Save files are not stored in the game directory.
Your chances of ever recovering files are always dim anyways

Okay... i just tried Rcuva and it doesn't even detect any file big enough to be a save like what shelter had my save file on the cloud shown as... so it appears that the save was hard overridden by steam somehow... i do not understand this type of ♥♥♥♥ to begin with... i looked through all the files deleted that were recovered yesterday, and not really any showed up that looked like a save file.

the game saves are located in:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FalloutShelter\
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_Shelter

if there is nothing to recover from that directory path, then i'm afraid your save is lost.

you could try Steam support, but i have yet to see anyone manage to recover their saves this way.

There is a file and a backup in that location that's dates are before the power outage I'm pretty sure... Now where do I copy them to?

plug a USB drive or if you have another disk, restore those files in a disk different than the original disk where the files are located.

once done;
1- open the game and stop before loading any vault
2- alt+tab or w/e, copy those restored files back to the location the game expects save files to be, like i mentioned above
3- close the game
4- wait for Steam to sync those files
5- reopen the game and load your vault

6- if its still not the vault you expect, rename the save to save.backup or w/e and rename that backup file to the original save file name
7- close the game and let Steam sync the files
8- reopen game and load backup vault

Did everything you said and game still won't resync with itself...

^steam cloud sync works like this:
1- before launching a game, download everything from Steam cloud repository to the local save fodler
2- launch the game
3- when game closes, upload everything from the save folder to the cloud sync repository

you could try temporarily disabling Steam cloud sync and fiddling with the save files until you find your old vault, but always remember to make a backup of everything you change just in case

yeah... that didn't work... i guess i have to wait for someone on the remaining devs or steam to be able to address me.

try to reach Steam support then, the devs wont give a shat since Bethesda sued them.

like i said before, your chances of ever recovering your saves are dim, but best of luck to you. and if you do manage it, please report back, i'm curious

Just got a reply from Steam's cloud support team and they basically said "No we won't help you." then tried to shift blame to Shelter's support team to get me the money spent on lunchboxes, mr handy's, and pet carriers back or a code to credit them to me ingame.

Well you could always use a save editor to make a vault similar to the one you lost and pretend nothing ever happened
