Is it worth having more than one Radio Room?
So I am not sure if it's helping to have two (or even three) Radio Rooms, but I do.

I mean, is it improving the happiness of the vault in general, at this point I have my 200 dwellers so I've got it set for "vault only" but I still have all 3 of them running, and I'm not sure that's worth it.

I seem to always have about a dozen dwellers in the mid 70's for happiness no matter what I do (I have to pick each one, assign a happiness pet, and wait a few hours 'till they're back to 100) but I'd hate to shut down two radio rooms and end up with more unhappy people.

So, anyone know if having two or three means two or three times as much happiness, or should I shut 'em down and go back to just 1?

As I understand it, the more important thing is how much charisma stat you have in the radio rooms. 2 people with 10 char in 1 room is better than 12 people with 1 charisma in multiple rooms, but they all add happiness, total charisma divided by two IIRC.

*Also it doesn't build up happiness, it adds a buff that disappears if the room is emptied or loses power.

So...are you talking more than one radio room that are separate from each other or connected to make it one large combined radio room occupying two or three spaces. Cuz, there's a difference. You don't need multiple 'different' radio rooms but combining to make it say 3 blocks wide can be beneficial. Reason.... you only need one radio room but, you get one point of happiness per person working in it. So, if you build it up to make it say max 3 block wide, you can get 6 dwellers working in it for 6 happiness points. At least, I believe it's one per dweller....maybe the first one gives 2...don't remember.

Sorry, yes, I meant three total '3 block rooms' -- so taking up 18 people right now.

But that brings to mind something else a bit confusing ... does it raise ALL Dweller's happiness when it's up and running, or ONLY improve the happiness of people working there? (That seems...odd....as it would mean it "cheers up" people with high Charisma faster?)

I always assumed a radio room that was set to "Vault Only" would improve the happiness of ALL Dwellers in the vault. No?

I seem to recall (quite a while back) the devs saying that the happiness function was broken and had no effect?

Yes, the radio room cheers up All vault dwellers...not just the one's in radio room.

@AT.... that may have been an issue in an older version but, that's not the case currently with the latest version. Vault dwellers do have problems if their happiness gets too low and benefits when it is high. Plus, you get the daily bonus based on total average vault happiness. Sometimes you do get a glitch where the game doesn't compute the happiness level correctly though. This is why the Save editors have a 'fix' tool for happiness in them.....to correct for that bug. You'd have to run it before you actually play the game ofc, cuz once you open your vault, it's computed. If you run the fix first, then you know when you load the vault, it's going to compute correctly. I don't bother with it till after the fact because I don't care if I lose the daily bonus caps or not. I just don't want it to remain low due to the glitch. So, I'll run it afterwards if it happens.

OK, so, confirmed, a radio room helps all Dwellers.

But also the original question: Is it beneficial to the whole Vault to have more than one Radio Room? (One 3-joined-section room)

Thanks!

It's only beneficial for one single block radio room. Except, increased number of additional rooms = 2 possible workers for 2 happiness points per room. But, you have to consider cost of running those extra rooms.....= higher electric demand. So, it's completely up to you.....do you want another room for an additional 2 happiness at the cost of electric use or would you rather cheer them up by rushing rooms and getting 10 additional happiness when they're successful? There's also a mod that can make it so rushing is always successful. But, that's kind of 'cheaty' ofc. There's also breeding...which max's their happiness right away.

I once built 3 radio stations to increase the rate at which new dwellers would be attracted to my vault (I had an objective to train a SPECIAL stat for 50 dwellers for a lunchbox in a very mature vault with nearly 200 dwellers).

I was able to quickly attract the needed dwellers, but when I destroyed two of the radio stations the Happiness of every dweller dropped several points. It took me days to get their Happiness back up.

I always build 2. One to attract dwellers, and one to appease my current ones

Uh...ok. You do realize one radio room raises happiness regardless of which setting you have it on? You can broadcast to the wasteland to attract dwellers but, the vault still hears the broadcast as well. Or, you can switch it to only broadcast in the Vault....which disables attracting new dwellers from wasteland.
