The non-maxed dwellers are healing to full every time they level up. The max dweller isn't - make sure they have plenty of stimpacks and an outfit with at least +1 endurance to protect from radiation.

Yeah, when dwellers level up, that's pretty much like them receiving a 'free stim,' it automatically heals them completely, without you even having to apply a stim to them, but this stops once they reach lvl 50. From that point, you have to heal them manually, and unfortunately will have to call your maxed dweller that is exploring back, if you don't want him to die, cause you can't manually heal him while he's exploring the wasteland.

TLDR;

The time dwellers can survive in the wasteland is dependent on how much medical supplies they have.

Higher levels mean higher max health, with a level 1 dweller's max health being 105 points.

*ENDURANCE SHOULD BE MAXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE MAX HEALTH.*

Max health is added when leveling up. Max health can very depending on how much endurance a dweller has.

If a dweller has only 1 endurance from level 1 reaching level 50 they will only have 252 hp at max level 50.

If a dweller somehow had 17 endurance (possible through outfits) from level 1, they would have 644 hp at max level 50/

Here is the big enchilada:

The lower the level of a dweller is, the less XP points to level up is need.

More experience means they level up faster, and when they level up their health refills.

Every time a dweller levels up, their max health increases. Higher level dwellers should survive longer than lower level ones.

After some point, the dweller's don't receive enough XP to level up, causing them to die when they run out of stimpacks.

To keep dwellers alive much longer than 2 days, it is incredibly important to stock them up with stimpacks and a few radaways.

The more stimpacks a dweller has, the longer they can stay alive.

Don't forget radaways, seeing as if radiation damage becomes greater than a dwellers health, they can't heal as much and use stimpacks more often.

Almost all special stats contribute to a unique feature in the wasteland, with the following being:

Strength: Chance of finding more items in the wasteland

Perception: Chance of finding locations in the wasteland

Endurance: *MOST IMPORTANT FOR TIME IN WASTELAND* Amount of health and radiation resistance a dweller has.

Charisma: Chance of higher "civilized" encounters when exploring in the wasteland

Intelligence: Chance at succeeding with wounded persons (injured sheriffs and wounded slaves) and have an increased chance of finding stimpacks and radaways.

Agility: Chance at successfully fleeing from enemy (Any decent weapon makes this useless)

Luck: Chance of finding higher quality items and Caps

It is also super important you give dwellers the right outfits depending on what goal you are trying to achieve.

Strength: Commander Fatigues

Perception: Heavy Armored Vault Suit

Endurance: Heavy Wasteland Gear

Charisma: Lucky Nightwear

Intelligence: Expert's Lab Coat

Agility: Expert Jumpsuit

Luck: Lucky Formal Wear

Lower levels of these gears also work if you don't have the legendary versions. Other accessories that boost certain special stats significantly such as power armor also work well.

Hope this all helps, good luck!
