[Fallout] [Theory] The Mysterious Strangers' Identities + Miss Fortune's Identity
[Disclaimer]

Before we start, I want to clarify a few things. I already know the Mysterious Stranger is mysterious, thus the name. However, there are a few hints that may reveal certain details about each Mysterious Stranger, even if isn't much. I also want to mention that I haven't played a lot of Fallout 76, so I have to rely on the fandom's word. With that out of the way, let's begin.

[Theory Part 1]

As I was doing stuff, an idea suddenly came to mind. I had to do a post about the Mysterious Stranger, no matter how much of my time would it consume.

As always, I went to my trusty and reliable source of information, the Nukapedia Fallout Wiki. After some research, this is what I've got:
1. Fallout A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game/Fallout 2 A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game
-If you've got the Mysterious Stranger perk, the Mysterious Stranger might come when you're in combat. The Mysterious Stranger can either be a male or a female. They can be seen wearing leather armor, a combat leather jacket, metal armor, combat armor or power armor and are equipped with a 10mm SMG, a hunting rifle, a plasma rifle, an FN FAL, an assault rifle, a combat shotgun, a laser rifle, an H&K CAWS and an H&K G11. They aren't immortal, so if they die they'll never come back.
-Nothing about their identities is known, nor the reason as to why would they come to help you.
2. Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas
-If you've got the Mysterious Stranger perk, the Mysterious Stranger might come to help you during VATS combat. The Mysterious Stranger is a young asian male wearing a long overcoat similar to those seen in noir detective movies and a hat. Both of these clothing pieces are unique and only worn by the Mysterious Stranger (and it's technically also worn by Miss Fortune, but the outfit looks completely different on females). His weapon of choice is a .44 Magnum named as the "Mysterious Stranger's .44 Magnum". He cannot be killed since he only appears during VATS to help the player, so no one can attack him back. Once he's done, he teleports away, dissapearing into thin air.
-Thanks to the Lonesome Drifter, who uses a .44 Magnum named as the "Mysterious 44.Magnum" that is extremely similar to the "Mysterious Stranger's .44 Magnum" and plays the Mysterious Stranger's Guitar riff, we know he's the child of the Mysterious Stranger. This Mysterious Stranger had a family, and even his family didn't know much about him. To his wife, he was like a complete stranger. One day, he would mysteriously leave the family for unknown reasons. Originally, it was planned for the Mysterious Stranger to attack the player if they ever tried to kill the Lonesome Drifter in VATS, but they never added the mechanic due to time restraints. The reason as to why he helps the player is unknown.
3. Fallout 4
-If you've got the Mysterious Stranger perk, the Mysterious Stranger might come to help you during VATS combat. The Mysterious Stranger is a middle aged white male with a moustache. He wears a dirty yellow trench coat and a dirty fedora, and his weapon is a .44 pistol. He cannot be killed since he only appears during VATS to help the player, so no one can attack him back. Once he's done, he teleports away, dissapearing into thin air.
-Not much is known about him, nor why would he come to help the player. However, we know other people has seen him and Nick Valentine is looking for him. Thanks to Nick's research, we know this Mysterious Stranger has been previously seen helping other people that wasn't the Sole Survivor.
4. Fallout 76
-If you've got the Mysterious Stranger perk, the Mysterious Stranger might come to help you during VATS combat. If you've got the Mysterious Savior perk, the Mysterious Stranger might come to revive the player if the player has been downed. The Mysterious Stranger is a young white male that wears a dirty yellow trench coat and a dirty fedora. His weapon is a .44 pistol. He's got short cropped hair He cannot be killed.
-Not much is known about him, nor why would he come to help the player.
5. Fallout Shelter
-The Mysterious Stranger is a white bald man wearing a coat and a hat. He appears from time to time inside the player's vault, and when clicked he turns himself into Nuka Cola bottle caps. If not clicked, he will dissapear for a while until he comes back to do exactly the same thing as before.
-Not much is known about him, nor as to why would he turn himself into Nuka Cola bottle caps.
6. Fallout New Vegas
-If you've got the Miss Fortune perk, Miss Fortune might appear during VATS to help you knock your enemies for a while. She's a caucasian female wearing (the Mysterious Stranger's Outfit but with a different texture for females) a feather hat, a cloth mask and a st*pper suit (seriously, I have no name for it). Her weapon of choice is a 44. Magnum named "Miss Fortune's Bad Luck Bringer". She cannot be killed since she only appears on VATS. Once she's done, Miss Fortune will teleport away.
-Not much is known about her, nor as to why she would help the player.

I know adding Miss Fortune to the list sounds weird, but there's a reason that shall be adressed in the following part.

[Theory Part 2]

Now that we know a few things about each, lets theorize the identities.
1. Mysterious Stranger (F1/F2)
-Since there's literally no information about these characters other than them being your average wastelander that for some reason come to help you once you get the perk, it's safe to assume they're just normal people that come to save your ass for no reason at all. I mean, you as the player could perfectly get into other people's lives and act as some kind of savior (weirdo) that follows them around.
-In summary, their identities and lives are completely unknown.
2. Mysterious Stranger (F3/FNV)
-The Mysterious Stranger is actually the ghost of a dead man. You see, back when he was alive he liked to be some kind of savior helping other people. Even after he got married and had a child on 2253, he still had this hobby of protecting others while hiding in the shadows. One day, he would die during one of his trips around the Wasteland, leaving his family alone. Still, even after death, he kept protecting others in the shadows, but now as a ghost. Ghosts already appeared in Fallout 2 and Fallout 4 Nuka World DLC, so it wouldn't be insane to say the Mysterious Stranger is also a ghost.
-In summary, the Mysterious Stranger is actually a ghost and the father of the Lonesome Drifter.
3. Miss Fortune (FNV)
-On the year 2253, she had a child. Years later, her husband would die. Misfortune would struck her family and she would soon die just like her husband, leaving her only child alone. But after death, something many would call a miracle happened. She came back as a ghost that would bring misfortune to those around her. Yet again, ghosts have already appeared in other Fallout games, so her being a ghost isn't so farfetched.
-In summary, Miss Fortune is actually a ghost and the mother of the Lonesome Drifter.
4. Mysterious Stranger (F4)
-The Mysterious Stranger is actually an escaped Institute synth. In fact, he's the feared S9 43 that was last seen at the Boston Airport. According to terminals in the Institute, they decided to not search for S9 43 because it was too dangerous. It takes a lot to make the Institute fear something so much that they would call it dangerous, and what's more dangerous than a escaped synth that can kill you with a single shot? Not only that, but I believe S9 43 was one of the synths they used as test subject for their VATS experiment. Being so advanced, he could easily take on the Institute by himself, but decides not to as long as the person he has chosen to protect doesn't attack them. S9 43 could have also been a Courser until he escaped like Chase from the Far Harbor DLC, explaining how he could teleport and his combat tactics. Perhaps he also uses stealth boys like Coursers do. He might have even been an attempt at installing real human minds into the newer synth generations, like they tried to do with NIck Valentine (the 2nd Gen Synth prototype). I mean, they both wear the same clothing, so they could share the same memories.
-In summary, the Mysterious Stranger is actually S9 43.
5. Mysterious Stranger (F76)
-The Mysterious Stranger is a remnant/fanatic of the Order of Mysteries. Now, I know only females were allowed in the ranks, but there were 2 men that worked with them, those being Frederick (one of the founders of the Order of Mysteries and later worked as a technical specialist) and Kent Connolly (who worked as a technical specialist). The vault 76 dwellers can join the Order of Mysteries by adding themselves to the list, just like they can with the Responders. Being a huge fan of the organization due to their heroic acts, he started helping others.
-Another theory could be that he simply likes helping other people, no matter their goals. Basically, a weirdo that follows people around and saves them.
-He's somehow related with Vault 76's Overseer, and he's trying to save you so she can succeed in her mission.
-He's the original Nick Valentine. He survived the war and now will kill anyone deemed unworthy of salvation by Timothy the Bark Scorpion.
-In summary, he's a remnant/fanatic of the Order of Mysteries, a weirdo that follows you around or someone related to Vault Tek that tries to help you succeed at helping your Overseer.
6. Mysterious Stranger (FS)
-He delivers the goods.
-In summary, he delivers the goods.

[Theory Part 3]

So, how did I come up with all of this? I thought it would make sense. They all have something in common, the usage of a .44 Magnum (except Fallout Shelter's Mysterious Stranger and Fallout 1 and 2's Mysterious Strangers). Does any of it really make sense? I have no idea, you tell me.

[Summary]

1. The Mysterious Stranger is
2. Go read it yourself
3. You lazy
4. Potato peeler
5. All Hail Timothy!

[Goodbye]

Goodbye.
