Feral ghouls useful?
Every so often they attack, but like deathclaws they seem to offer no reward for surviving. They don't even offer much of a challenge...
What're they for? New players to fight?

Deathclaws never give me any stuff from surviving them only some xp. And i've never been attacked by feral ghouls after 12 hours

It doesn't mean anything. I have a vault with 199 population (no idea on hours for this one), and I still get feral ghoul attacks. I seem to get them about once a day, or never if I have an objective to survive them. It's just rng.

And no, they are not usefull. Other than being annoying and being used to complete objectives, they offer very littel xp and nothing else.

Every enemy give xp and usually caps.If you are lucky you can get something else. There is no wide variety of monsters and enemies so we have to settle with those existing blocking our way to the goal of the quest. In the vault all enemies are just xp and feral ghouls are one of the easiest to beat.It is just choice of the computer which enemy will attack the vault. And it seems that the radio room has something to do with that.It sends always a signal to enemies and new dwellers every three hours(probably)even if you stop signaling to the wasteland.Just by constructing a radio room it keep signaling, but if you want to find a new dweller you must put someone to work in there(and i believe, not sure, you only have to put him there to work just a little earlier before the three hours passes and you get a new dweller).

I you have 10 dwellers with max Charisma the timer is every 58-ish minutes. That spawns a random occurance of either an attack or a dweller showing up. Also, any time the vault door opens, it can spark an attack.

Yes maybe if put all the dwellers that can work in the radio room and their charm is high this might reduce the time that a new dweller comes(or not if it the signal fails)but just the existance of a radio room(or more) may trigger random attacks. But you need those rooms if you want to increase the popullation of your vault.I have written again that you can manipulate the pc timer(lets say you change it to show 2 days later than the real time and you will see that all time related incidents(not attacks) will be over(pregnant women ready to give birth, childs become mature dwellers, the radio rooms with a dweller in it has found a new dweller and other such). You can set the pc timer to the real time and you can do the drill again and again for fast results.

For people wanting to try this time change method. . . .DON'T. It could corrupt your file. This issue has been patched, and it will eventually catch up to your game. Even if you play offline, the game syncs to your pc's clock. So when it (your pc's clock) updates, the game will notice the changes.

I left my game running (iPod) and I tended to get attacked every ~8 minutes.

Yes the game syncs to your pc clock. So if you change the time to two days later(to be sure)all time related things will have progress. And then you set the pc clock to the correct time and the pregnant women that gave birth they cannot be unpregnant and the child dissapear(just an example. The game is very slow to many aspects and at least with this way something moving faster or we would have all drop the game because of boredom.Wait three hours to give birth, three hours for a child to become mature dweller, three hours to get a new dweller from the radio room and other such. And the other bad thing is the time constructing a weapon,an outfit or just travel to a location for a quest. There are not many chances to get nuka cola and many of it to
pass time.
