Found a broadcast tower.
There was a supply cache inside. Gained 25 XP.... Where are the damn supplies?!

It depends on their physical traits. They may not of had the skill required to open the cache but you gained xp for finding it. You want your most well trained settler, out there searching for stuff. A 10/10 can get a quest and find legendary items in under 5 minutes of sending them out. Even got a lunchbox and pet in less than a minute, with pop-up quests.

Was that just from a line of text on the Dweller's green screen, or was it from going into an actual building (one that you can see)?

Well, I only send people with all stats at 10 into the wasteland. So that near enough confirms that specials don't matter for this.
And yeah, it was from the green screen. I wasn't being overly serious, but I did wonder if there were supposed to be supplies or not. Seems baddly worded.

Yeh I've seen it too in the messages. sometimes you get coin with it or an item, but not always
The stats help too, I was lucky and got Dr. Li at the start of my vault. I sent her out overnight and she brought back enough gear to almost arm all the vault, but i had a starter population. Just it was a huge boost.

:D I think it's just a chance thing. But the messages do come up with failures too (like running away or finding something they can't open) that they get xp from, so the xp just seems like you get it whether an item or not, the latter being a bonus. Try putting an outfit with high luck on a 10/10 then send them out. Oh and if you have a pet for bonus wasteland stuff add that to them too before sending them out.

I find you get better chances that they will find something on that message besides just xp
when wearing a luck suit.
